2012 Election | Mitt Romney | Netroots Nation | Newt Gingrich | Rick Sanchez | Ron Paul

Mitt Wins Nevada

Picture 20

That's it! CNN just announced that Romney's taken Nevada:

With 10% of the results in, Romney had about 48% of the vote while Rep. Ron Paul and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich were in a tight race for second with 21% and 20% of the vote, respectively. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who had largely bypassed the state, had 11% of the vote. Those numbers were gathered from vote counters at caucus sites across the state.

With a win in Nevada, Romney will be the first GOP candidate in this cycle to score back-to-back wins. The former Massachusetts governor appeared to win in the Iowa caucuses but the contest was later awarded to Santorum when the vote was certified. Romney scored a big win in New Hampshire but was then stunned in South Carolina by Gingrich. Romney scored a 14-point victory over Gingrich and the rest of the field in Tuesday's Florida primary and entered Saturday's contest with a sizable lead in polls.

No surprises here. Momentum or no, Nevada's pretty Mornon.

The big news from tonight's primary, if any news from tonight's primary can be ascribed qualities of bigness, is how utterly defeated looked the massively homophobic Rick Santorum as he delivered his concession speech. He took off and signed his tie right at the beginning of his address -- it's to be auctioned off later by some improbable groupie -- and rambled on, looking sad and rumpled, for a good fifteen minutes about imperiled American freedoms and imperiled American values and the cruel vagaries of money politics before Wolf Blitzer cut him off.

Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul have yet to speak. (Gingrich says he's foregoing the usual concession speech and intends to do an honest-to-goodness press conference.) If anybody says anything interesting, I'll post the speeches tomorrow.

  1. I live here in NV and my partner works for Sheldon Adelson. I am SHOCKED that Mitt won. With all the millions Adelson put into his campaign. What a waste...haha. I was hoping that Gingrich would end up going up against Obama though, that would be funny.

  2. Anyone check at RCP site recently? It's showing a recent general election poll with Santorum leading Obama by 1 point. Don't think for a second that this means nothing.

  4. Adelson is now making statements that he's abord the Mitt-Luv Train. Andy doesn't tell you that the total vote count was about 20K...seesh, I've seen 'bout that many on a good nite @ Apollos....Wasn't Nevada supposed to be Ron Paul's Ground Zero? The tot Nevada pop that is Mormon is only about 20%

  7. I expected Mitt's sons to be hotter. Except for brown sweater guy they all look like they could benefit from a little more stirring of the gene pool.

  8. Why do these characters all use their families like props to be rolled out after each victory? Romney's sons look like a lineup of clones. And the ever grinning dutiful wife Ann, the heiress, oh brother.

  9. I agree, I'm starting to get freaked out by all of Mitt's sons... especially the one that looks like The Joker.

  11. I wonder if Mitt will change his tune on gay issues when at least one of his sons, after surviving and stint in Evergreen (the Mormon "ex-gay" torture "therapy), a wife and umpteen kids, eventually comes out as a big ole Mo!

With that many sons the odds are almost certain.

  12. My money's on brown sweater!

  13. I'd love it if one of Romney's sons turned out to be gay. That would put a sock in the mouth of the ex-gay scam artists and those family values bigots. Even if we're lucky enough for that to become a reality, I doubt if Romney would retract anything he's said about same-sex marriage and other equality issues affecting the LGBT community.

  14. It's because of the Mormon church in Nevada; wait till they get to the southern states; I seriously doubt Romney will do well there!!!

  15. I think all five (are there more?) should start wearing color-coded sweaters.

  16. Actually Romney's winning was a given. I agree with Jeffrey Dunivant, there is a big Mormom presence here. Nevada was the second state occuppied my mormons after Utah. Our former idiot Govenor was a mormon, Harry Reid is a mormon. I don't think it's indicates anything. They're making too big a deal out of it. But true watch the southern states, Mitt can't win there-Florida doesn't count-it's not a southern state.

  17. Every time I see Romney with his five sons, I ask the question why none of them, not a single one, has ever seen fit to volunteer in the armed forces.

In 2008, when asked this same question, Romeny replied that they had more important things to do such as working on his political campaign. (Really, Romney said just that.)

How can this man claim to support this nation and its freedoms when his children will not even deign to back up his fighting words with actual action.

Romeny is more than happy to send other people's children to war and death, but not his own.

Evidently, talk is cheap in the Romney household.

    Hypocrite.

  21. The big news should be that Mittens got a smaller percentage than four years ago, when he got 51%. I'm surprised that isn't being mentioned more than it is.

  22. I don't like Romney's success either, but the attacks on his children should be beneath the dignity of reasonable, mature people. The sons are not the presidential candidate, Mitt is. They are simply Mitt's children, not his clones.

  23. Generally this Coach Outlet contains those accessories that are not doing great company within the normal boutiques or which are sold at discounted price. One can even look at purchasing from Coach Outlet Store like a genuine shopping adventure! You can find many different outlets which have current collections in Coach Outlet Online Store.
