DNC Has Already Turned Romney Aide's Etch A Sketch Gaffe Into An Ad: VIDEO

Like the toy that inspired it, Mitt Romney communications man Eric Fehrnstrom's comparison between his candidate and the Etch A Sketch became an instant classic. Romney's Republican primary opponents seized on it immediately, as did President Obama's reelection team. But the Democratic National Committee's response may be the most vigorous.

The Washington Post reports that they sent out 16 separate emails about Fehrnstrom's remark and within hours had produced a web video about the incident. This is no doubt the first of what will be a long string of anti-Romney attacks featuring the unfortunate analogy, and perhaps the beginning of an Etch A Sketch revival!

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  3. The DNC watches too much Fox News. I guess they copy them because they have the highest ratings. Instead of calling Obama a socialist they're calling Romney extreme. It's preaching to the converted. Only independent voters are available in face-off between Obama and Romney. This appeals to Dems that they already have.

  4. markt

please explain how the top romney campaign adviser/ employee saying such will woo independents

heck, please explain how such soothes the concerns of many about romney's flip flopping past?

Also please explain how this motivates GOTV for a repub base that already hates romney and distrusts him. "Obama is black don't you know! arghhhh" only goes so far to motivate repub base to turn out the vote for a mormon

  5. So, Romney's campaign manager says Romney's going to erase his theocratic Christianist positions like it's an Etch A Sketch? The fundie Christians will want to burn him at the stake, but at the very least, they won't vote for him. The only votes Romney would have left are the super-rich, and that's not nearly enough votes to win.

Can you just see the bible-thumping morons holding up Etch A Sketches and screaming, "Thou shalt not suffer a Mormon witch to live!" This is ever so much fun.

  6. I said the ad won't garner votes from independents. I didn't say anything about how the etch sketch mistake would help Romney get independents. Obviously it was a slip of the tongue. However, he didn't say anything anyone doesn't know - all candidates, including Obama, have done the same thing just not said so. Independents are pragmatics and may even like the one note of honesty heard throughout the whole slaughter - I mean campaign. Obama has not done much better in the same regard.

  7. If the DNC and the rest of the Democratic Party leadership is smart, they will get permission from R. Maddow to use her show that critiqued Romney's constant lying and run it as their ad against Mitt. The show was brilliant and totally accurate. If you remember how Edward R Murrow's show destroyed Joe McCarthy;Rachael's show was equally strong in destroying Romney.
