First Official Look: Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in 'Les Mis'

Hugh Jackman has grown a mighty beard for his role as Jean Valjean in the film adaptation of the stage musical Les Miserables, directed by Tom Hooper and scheduled for a December release.

He tweeted the photo last night: "Very excited about how the first days of filming are going!! Check out my convict look...but its changing soon."

  1. They JUST started filming and it's a 3 hour stage show that has scenes of the French Revolution and it's scheduled for a December 2012 release? Seems unbelievably rush-rush which is funny for a musical that should have been filmed 15-20 years ago. But as Kristin Chenoweth says, by the time Wicked gets filmed she'll be too old for Madame Morrible.

  2. Hugh Jackman with his Valjean costume still looks handsome. HJ is a great singer, but people will compare him to Colm Wilkinson, the perfect Valjean.
Also Anne Hathaway will be compared to Patti LuPone's Olivier Award winning performance.
HJ is an excellent singer, but how about AH? Can she beat LuPone's I Dreamed A Dream?

  3. Markus, it's not the French Revolution. Turn in your gay card.

  4. A friend of mine is calling him "Hugh-4-6-0-1." (Fans of the show will get it.)

  5. Anne Hathaway is a far better singer than Patti LuPone.
