Southern Poverty Law Center Designates 11 New Anti-Gay Hate Groups in Report on Rise of Extremism

PatriotThe Southern Poverty Law Center has just issued a new report showing that extremist groups are at record levels. The report also adds 11 groups to the organization's list of designated anti-gay hate groups.

Those groups are:

United Families International, Save California, Sons of Thundr (Faith Baptist Church), You Can Run, But You Cannot Hide, Parents Action League, Jewish Political Action Committee, Mission: America, Windsor Hills Baptist Church, True Light Pentecost Church, Tom Brown Ministries, and Public Advocate of the United States.

SPLC writes:

The SPLC report details the growth of hate groups to a record 1,018 in 2011, up from 1,002 the year before and the latest in a series of increases going back more than a decade. But the dramatic growth came in the Patriot movement, which is composed of armed militias and other conspiracy-minded organizations that see the federal government as their primary enemy. These groups saw their numbers skyrocket for the third straight year in 2011, this time by 55 percent - from 824 in 2010 to 1,274 groups last year. In 2008, just before the Patriot movement took off, there were 149 Patriot groups, a number that metastasized to 512 in 2009.

In all, Patriot groups have increased by 755 percent during the first three years of the Obama administration. Their number has now surpassed - by more than 400 groups - the previous all-time high set in 1996, when the first wave of the militia movement peaked shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing that left 168 people dead.

...The hate groups listed in this report include neo-Nazis, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, racist skinheads, Klansmen and black separatists. Other hate groups on the list target LGBT people, Muslims or immigrants, and some specialize in producing racist music or propaganda denying the Holocaust.

  1. The next Oklahoma City bombing -- and it's inevitable -- will probably be even more tragic.

  2. And where is NOM and its gopher of a leader, Mag the Hag, on this list?

  3. Wouldn't the white nationalists and the black separatists get along just fine?

  4. I do have questions about this report, although I agree with the list of anti-gay hate groups, I think there are more.

The SPLC has had to retract many entries on their reporting about the 'patriot movement.' The FBI reported that there was in fact a decrease of involvement in these groups and that for the most part they are not dangerous.

And the other thing is that questioning our federal government should not be considered a 'dangerous act' that merits the SPLC labeling them as such. So lets say we have a santorum federal government next year... this site and among others would be considered a 'patriot group' then because we will be opposed to all of the santorum federal policies.

If you look at La Raza group they have said many times that the federal government is illegal and should be ousted but yet they are not on the SPLC watch list.

and lastly the cover of the report makes it seem as though SPLC is in fact engaging in terrorism since they are trying to inflict terror and anxiety on us by imposing fear saying that are home-grown terrorists under your bed ... I mean its basically cartoonish in a way. Seems like GW Bush and Cheney wrote this report. Seems like the SPLC is siding with the federal government, the same government that discriminates against gay couples, the same government that gives our tax money to the super rich bankers and wall street criminals, the same government that kills innocent life overseas in meaningless wars... oops I better watch it, I might end up on SPLC's watch list of 'patriot' groups.

I will be reading the entire report, and again like always I will find some falsehoods.

  5. Anyone else believe that we are building up to the next tragedy? With Republicans egging them on in explicit exhortations, there has to be some sort of outlet for their fury: and it will not be pretty.

  8. @Jose

thank you. I don't appreciate being told that if I think the government has gone completely runaway and corrupt that I can be considered "dangerous". People forget the the pendulum swings both ways and when you give up liberty because you trust your guy, that same liberty is still gone when the other guys come riding in.

Occupy = Tea Party, Tea Party = Occupy

depending upon who you are and your political persuasion they are dangerous and crazy.

  9. I do notice that right-wing groups notably spike when there's a Democrat in office--they increased mightily in the 90's under Clinton (climaxing in Oklahoma City), and now again under Obama. Their motto seems to be "it's our country/way, or else," like giant overgrown babies crying for their pacifiers (or automatic weaponry). But a lot of these groups were very happy to roll over and take it in the shorts under Bush II, because his raping of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights was "protecting us from Islamic terrorists" (as opposed to sh-thead domestic terrorists like you). Just remember, folks on the right, it was Clinton's handling of the Oklahoma City tragedy that solidified the country's support behind him and made him look like a strong, compassionate leader--if you do something to "make a statement" about how much you hate Obama, it could play right into Obama and the Democrats' hands next November.

  10. SPLC focuses mostly on violent white trash. Where are all the anti-gay black churches? Where are the anti-Semitic left-wing groups, like ANSWER, CAIR, and Occupy Wall Street? Where is La Raza? Did I miss the Weather Underground? Didn't they bomb government targets?

The SPLC list is only half complete, and I suspect deliberately so.

  12. Cindy Biggs, wife of Arizona Senate Republican Majority Leader Andy Biggs, is listed as the secretary and treasurer of the Arizona Chapter of United Families International, one of the newly listed anti-gay hate groups. That clearly illustrates what we are up against here in Arizona.

  13. This list includes the NEW hate groups.

The old ones, like NOM, the Catholic Church, the government of Jamaica, the Republican/Tea Party, the KuKluxKlan, the governor of New Jersey, etc. -- are all still in business,

  14. These idiots are losing the so-called "culture war" because LGBT people are out of the closet now, and anyone can see that they are leading perfectly ordinary, normal lives, and should be entitled to equality in all things. The "sick gay fetishes" of the hour are marriage and military service. Why on earth they consider themselves "Christian" is beyond me - a convenient fig leaf for naked hateful bigotry, I suppose. You get to be hateful and feel morally superior all at the same time, just for not having sex with the half of the population you aren't attracted to anyway. It must be a boost for tiny minds and damaged egos.

  16. You forgot to mention that the SPLC is the biggest hate group of them all. They hate anyone that disagrees with them. Now that is what you call hate.

  17. Mission: America merely denies that gays are born gay-that's cause for being on a hate list? Where's that gay Morris?

  18. Where is that gay gene exactly Morris?
