Trump Organization Says It Won't Bar Transgender Contestant Jenna Talackova from Miss Universe Pageant

Last week we reported that Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old Canadian finalist in the Miss Universe Canada competition, was being ejected from the pageant because she is transgender. Now comes news that the Miss Universe organization has reversed itself, ABC News reports:

Talockova“The Miss Universe Organization will allow Jenna Talackova to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions,” Michael D. Cohen, executive vice president and special counsel to Donald Trump, said in an email.

The Miss Universe Canada website states that to enter, women must be a Canadian citizen and between the ages of 18 and 27. If basic requirements are met, they are asked to fill out a longer application form. The form does not mention any rules against sexual reassignment surgery.

GLAAD says it is working with the organization to update its policies:

“The Miss Universe Organization made the right decision and has taken an important first step,” said GLAAD's Herndon Graddick. “Now, GLAAD urges the Organization to include all women and use this incident to speak out in support of the transgender community.”

“So many women today do not have equal opportunities for employment, housing and safety simply because they are transgender. The Miss Universe Organization should look to state non-discrimination laws and institutions including the Olympics, NCAA and The CW’s America’s Next Top Model, which do not discriminate against transgender women,” said Graddick.

  1. Oh come on GLAAD, can't you just leave a good decision alone? They are allowing her to compete, but you're saying that's not enough, now they should be ADVOCATES!? For pete's sake.

And I'm curious as to what further "updating" GLAAD thinks the rules need, if they are already letting transgendered women compete...are they lobbying to let the drag queens be included to?

  4. She has the hips and thighs of a skinny 16-year-old boy. Very unfeminine.

  6. Does she still have a pee pee? That might pose a problem.

  7. My friend's aunt earned $16991 past month. she is making money on the computer and
moved in a $584700 condo. All she did was get fortunate and put in action the directions
laid out on this web site....

  8. No, TonyT, she doesn't have a pee-pee anymore; she has a hoo-hoo.
I've had no interest in watching these pageants for a long time. But I must admit I would tune in out of curiosity if it has a "twist" for once.
Granted, she would first have to overcome the obstacle of winning the (untelevized) Canadian title before she would even be in the running for the internationally-televised event.

  9. Feminine? Depends on your tastes. Not bad at all. I've seen much worse. Some men like leggy girls with narrow hips. And I personally see nothing unappealing about the hips and thighs of 16-year old boys, purely from an aesthetic point of view. Kind of a shame that she buys into the whole pageant ethos, but.....she has to express her identity some way. And if she can strike a blow for equal recognition, more power to her.

  10. Great news! This could mean a brand new career chapter for "Drag Race"'s Willam. He's prettier than a lot of the Miss Universe contestants. And acts just as bitchy, at least on-camera.
