Lesbian Reports Being Punched, Told to 'Hit Like a Man' After Local Bar Says They Don't Serve Her Type: VIDEO

Police are investigating an incident in the rural community of Weir, Texas in which a lesbian claims she and her friends were told to leave a local bar and then beaten after leaving, while the attackers used anti-gay slurs, KVUE reports:

WardAccording to a Florence resident named Julie Ward, she, her sister, sister-in-law and another friend went to the only bar in Weir, called The Bunkhouse, just before 1 a.m. Sunday. “Everybody's just hanging out, having drinks, having a good time," said Ward. "We walked in, went straight to the pool table and started playing some pool.”
About half an hour later, Ward says a female employee told them the bar “didn’t serve their type." Ward says she took that to mean the bar didn’t serve homosexuals because Ward is gay. According to Ward, things took a turn for the worse as she and her friends were leaving.
“As we came outside into the parking lot, we were followed by the patrons of the bar and our arms were held back by women and we were beaten by men. A man told me if I was going to look like a man, I better be able to take a hit like a man, and I was punched in the face at that moment and hit the ground,” said Ward.

The Statesman reports that Ward says 20-25 customers witnessed the attack.

  1. I work at a gay bar, and on lesbian night, those girls fight and throw punches. I've thrown more lesbians out of the bar than the few gay guys I can count on one hand.

  2. Thank you for that completely irrelevant piece of made-up nonsense, Alan.

I hope this gets investigated properly. The worst is when these things go unpunished and the perpetrators ride a high of 'getting away with it.' It can't be encouraged or tolerated.

  3. @Alan, what does that have to do with this article? What are you saying?

  4. @DRG, I know. Is it some attempt to justify what happened to this woman?

  5. I'm guessing Alan is saying the women started it. Although, uh, this is rural Texas. So things like this are sort of not surprising, Alan. Maybe instead of blaming the women based on essentially nothing, you should read the story and what transpired here. In fact, the bar owners ADMIT there was an altercation and excuse it based on the lesbians "roughhousing".

The police saying they are "not sure" if this was a hate crime is not a good sign. We will all have to put the pressure on here and now allow this go unpunished and swept under the rug like it would be normally.

  6. If this is the same Alan who comes on here to talk negatively about Obama and liberals I'm sure we can all just ignore this as a symptom of his gay republican psychosis.

There is still a cultural problem of violence against women in our species, and it's an ugly reality that doesn't seem to be going away. Worse yet are the justifications that some people give for violence against women, and we've all seen and heard the comments about a woman being a lesbian or trans as 'justification'. Like that military guy who suggested that maybe all a lesbian soldier needed was a nice good old fashioned raping. Sick.

  7. The posted called "Alan" is just a troll, probably works for NOM. Perhaps it's Maggie. Ignore her.

  8. @Jay I completely agree with your second paragraph, but please remember that talking negatively about Obama does not make one a republican. Cf Glenn Greenwald and other true liberals.

  9. Let the cops and prosecutor do their job. If there's enough evidence and merit, there should be arrests and prosecution. She can also civilly sue, of course.

This type of incident is really hard to 'prove' one way or the other if there are no independent witnesses, video, etc. Bar and club brawls and fights are extremely common.

  10. There's something here that doesn't make sense...there's more to the story.

A town of 500, where everyone knows everyone, with only the one bar...this likely isn't the first time these girls have been to that bar, and yet this time there was unprovoked, rampant homophobia and violence? To the point that the patrons came out of the bar after them and it turned into a mob attack? Something is definitely missing in this scenario.

  11. Texas...

  12. why is it necessary to play devil's advocate...somehow find some extenuating circumstance to mitigate what appears to be blatant mob brutality...implicate the victim? the political language of some supposedly legitimate voices have emboldened the bullies and haters. rural Texas yes, but 40 miles from Austin, the capitol and most liberal city in the state. this is symptomatic of the legitimization of gay persecution and it will only escalate the true majority that do not condone this behavior actually stand up and make it stop.

  13. it will escalate UNTIL the majority ...

  14. This is why we have hate crimes laws, so the Feds can step into this little hick town and prosecute where the locals won't.

The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, signed into law by President Obama (thanks Mr. President!) gives federal authorities greater ability to engage in hate crimes investigations that local authorities choose not to pursue.

  15. I have been to this bar and I can tell you first hand how Ron and Debra handle thing. First I was asked to not come back to the bar myself and when I asked why I was told that I am so big that if ever anything was to happen with that they could not stop it and for that reason alone I was told not to come back. If they don't like you or you are a out side person then they fell free to do what they want her father own the hole town they over charge people it the town and do stuff like this all the time I'm not sure why the place has not been on the news sooner

  16. What happened at the bar is not surprising to me at all. The owner of the bar is also a standing member of the city council in Weir. It's a "good ol boy" system riddled with prejudice towards all outsiders/newcomers.

Williamson County Sheriff's department will do little to thoroughly investigate because of the political ties. To exact the truth of the events that took place, it will need to be investigated by another agency that is impartial.
