Anti-Bullying Bill Defeated by Illinois Conservatives Warning of Front for 'Homosexual Agenda', 'Indoctrination'

A bill that would have protected kids from bullying in Illinois schools was killed yesterday by the state Senate, the St. Louis Dispatch reports:

Illinois“There are anti-bullying programs that have an agenda, to only protect one class of individuals,” state Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Highland, said in floor debate against the measure, before it was defeated.

“Some of these programs are very good. They indeed encourage kids not to bully,” McCarter added later. “But there are programs throughout the United States, used in some high schools and universities, that really have just a pro-homosexual agenda, and nothing but that.”

McCarter and other opponents wanted an addition to the bill that would allow students to opt out of any anti-bullying programs or activities that clashed with their personal or religious beliefs. Supporters said federal law already gave students that right.

The Illinois Family Institute claims the measure's real goal is "to use public education to promote unproven, non-factual beliefs about the nature and morality of homosexuality and 'transgenderism'." It sees the bills as a beachhead for "homosexual activist organizations" that want to indoctrinate students and teachers.

The measure was one vote short of passage, but could get a second chance:

The measure needed 30 votes to pass but got only 29, with 12 senators voting “no” and 12 voting “present.” Steans said some supporters were absent, so she’s optimistic it could pass if called for another vote.

  1. Hopefully the bill eventually passes if it's brought up again before the legislative session ends. Once again we see that social conservatives have essentially declared war against our community. Do they think this is going to work out for them come November, or are they just this completely evil?

  2. Haters are antiChrist who do not believe or pretend to believe in Jesus Christ but do not acknowledge His 2 commandments to love God and to love thy neighbor as thyself, which are the highest of all biblical laws. The antiChrist always 'consult' the devil who is the master of quoting biblical verses except those 2 top commandments of love from Christ, to disagree, to avoid using Christ name but other name even 'god', to bring all sort of biblical verses and to lie. Their purpose is to deceive people that those 2 commandments of love were not above all laws for Christians.

The issue of homosexuality among any other issues is a test of the Christian faith on that choice of who they really believe in the end, to love (stay with Christ & His Commandments) or to hate (succumb to temptation of verses not from Christ and his top commandments to justify their hatred).

  3. The Dems should have compromised and incorporated the religious opt out clause. It is better than not passing the bill.

  4. F*cking a$sh*les.

A front for the homosexual agenda is to make school safer for bullied kids? Really?

Go back to your frigid wives.

  6. I'm shocked that there is even a religious opt-out clause in the federal law. If you want to think homosexuality is a sin, wonderful, but that applies only to YOU. The second you start harassing other people for not following your religious beliefs is the second your religious rights end and the next person's begins.

Imagine if Jewish students went around bullying every non-Jewish student who brought in a ham sandwich for lunch. Jewish people who want to keep kosher do so and leave the rest of the world in peace, why can't anti-gay Christians be the same?

  7. “But there are programs throughout the United States, used in some high schools and universities, that really have just a pro-homosexual agenda, and nothing but that.”

And you expose your real bigotry. As long as you are leaning on your bible, you can torture gay kids to death with no consequences because you're just defending your religion and moral beliefs. Bullying must really strengthen your faith in god eh?

  8. The anti-gay Christian agenda is evil and hard to face. These anti-gay Christians are criminally insane and some wear suits and ties and work on plans to destroy LGBT people using their Christian agenda to do it. These anti-gay Christians are members of the CIA, FBI etc. and have access to information like psychological warfare on how to destroy your enemy with out firing a shot. These anti-gay Christian CIA agents are teaching Christians who go along with them how to demean and dehumanize LGBT people in such a way they can not be caught. There is a lot of evil these evil anti-gay Christians are doing that is hard to see but they are doing it. When ever I see news of a gay person committing suicide, I think that most likely some anti-gay Christians did something to push them over the edge. In fact these anti-gay Christians are taught how to harass LGBT people until they do commit suicide.

  9. Thank you Simon, for explaining so well what I have thought for a long time. The haters are antiChrist. God sent the 10 commandments as his top laws. They are being broken every day by those who preach hate and destruction upon anyone. If you have Christ in your heart, you do not hate.

  10. @Lucas
The next time the legislature decides to change the speed limit laws, do you suppose they are going to provide an opt out for those people who believe that Jesus just wants them to drive really, really, really fast? What good is a law which contains the instructions for not obeying the law? Sounds like a complete waste of time and money, IMHO.

  12. I was in the Senate Gallary when this bill was debated. The St. Louis Dispatch is incorrect- those statements were made by Sen. Righter.

It was an intense, but brief debate. Righter made the defeat about the lack of the opting-out, and not about the bill itself..

I made a joke to one of the lobbyists next to me, "God help you if Righter stands up during your bill."

  14. Bullying is a social phenomenon that transcends gender, age, and culture. While there are wide ranges in the definition of the term, bullying is essentially characterized by one or several individuals aggressing on a vulnerable peer, primarily to assert control or power. Thus, being a parent I've learned to be vigilant and more particular on the safety of my teens especially when it comes with bullying cases. Then I found this site that provides a protection for children from a safety mobile protection that can access family, friends and 911 in times of emergency. I just downloaded their application on their iPhone. Here’s where you can find it: http://safetrec.com/
