Four Gay Men to Be Hanged for Sodomy in Iran: Report

Four men from the town of Choram, in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province have been sentenced by a court to hang for sodomy, Pink News reports:

IranFour men named ‘Saadat Arefi’, ‘Vahid Akbari’, ‘Javid Akbari’ and ‘Houshmand Akbari’ are due to be executed shortly after their verdict was approved recently by high court judges, according to a report from the Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) in Iran.

The four men are said to be from the town of Choram, in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province of Iran.

According to HRANA and JOOPEA, these four men will be hanged for sodomy according Shari’a law.

A gay activist based in Iran said: ‘Although being gay is not a crime based on Iranian criminal law but this is the most clear statement against same sex-acts in past months.’

The paper adds:

London based Iranian Human Rights Lawyer, Mehri Jafari said: ‘I am horrified and saddened to have heard the news about these four men. Not only with regards to the execution which is about to take place, but the fact that is beyond our control.

‘There are two important issues in this case; the location of the alleged occurrence and the interpretation of the Sharia’ law that a Hodud (strict Sharia punishment) is eminent.  Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad is one of the most undeveloped provinces in Iran and it is obvious that a lack of access to lawyers and fair trial can be considered a serious issue in this case. After this announcement it is very likely that the execution will be carried out soon, and the remote location makes it difficult to exert any influence on the process.’

  2. The Iranian government should instead do what the American Republican government promotes: a culture where you simply browbeat and demean gay people so that they hang themselves. That seems to be the GOP's message. "Don't kill the gays, just treat them with the disgust and hatred that we do and they'll do it themselves"

"civilized" nations need to get their collective s**t together because there truly is a need for a world-wide plan of action to protect our brothers and sisters overseas.

  3. But Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the world that IRAN HAS NO GAYS.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is about to let 4 innocent heterosexuals be hanged.

Mohammed is NOT going to be happy that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has faslsely accussed and hung four heterosexual iranians.

  4. @MIC: they have no gays because they have been or will be executed. The nation is being cleansed of them.

  6. Good God, the staggering filth and savagery of the fundamentalist Muslim mind would be unimaginable if it weren't in the news. If these young men are sacrificed at least they won't be hurting anymore. I am miserable with sorry for them. What can possibly be done?

  7. So the next time a Christian in the US says they don't agree with our lifestyle, imagine the image of being hanged in a Muslim country, murdered because we are gay.

Sites like this need to devote MUCH more time to our gay brothers and sisters outside of the US. Shame on you gay men who are selfish and sit around moaning about Christians all day long. You should count your lucky stars that you live here. Cry me a river. A Christian just said they anti-gay marriage while a noose is put around four gay men in Iran.

These four gay men would trade places with you in a second.

  8. @ Alan

Your point is irrelevant. The difference between Christians in the U.S. and Muslims in Iran has much less to do with religion, and more to do with society and culture. If you haven't noticed, neither Christians nor Muslims have authority to hang people in the United States. And this is because U.S. is a modern country.

Iran's sharia law is really a relic of a culture that is still stuck hundreds of years back in the past. Turkey, a Muslim nation that is much more modern than Iran, does not criminalize homosexuality. Hundreds of years ago Christians had state sanctioned killings of gays just like Iran does today. Both "modern" Muslims and Christians do not see homosexuality as a capital crime.

Arguments based on "it could always be worse" stand on weak ground. The selfish moaning and groaning for a liberated society is what got us a modern country today. Gays in Iran with a noose around their neck is not, and should not be the reference point for happiness.

  9. @MIC
Ahmadinejad said in iran we don't have such phenomenon as in your country, but he didn't say we don't have any homosexual at all. i think he is right since this is a big sin in islam and the majority of iranians are muslim. as far as i know this is banned in other religions as well.
