FOX Nation: Obama 'Declares War on Marriage'

Equality Matters reports: "Fox Nation’s post linked to a Yahoo News article on Obama’s announcement, which ran the headline 'Obama declares support for gay marriage.'"

In fair-and-balanced news:

Fox News anchor Shep Smith responded to President Barack Obama's shift on same-sex marriage this afternoon with a characteristically dry zinger:

"The President of the United States, now in the 21st century."

Smith later asked if the GOP would continue to use same-sex marriage as a wedge campaign issues "while sitting firmly, without much question, on the wrong side of history on it."

  9. I find it both amusing and frightening how loosely FNC throws around the word "war" these days. War on women...war on Christmas....war on Christianity....war on marriage. Of course, this is obviously no accident. The word "war" invokes very strong emotions and carries with it very strong connotations. I just wonder what they will decide to declare "war" on next...

  11. I though it was the divorce lawyers who were at war with marriage. Or the people who are going thru/starting a divorce. Or people who marry and divorce multiple times. Or the people who refuse to marry, or stay unattached. How can people wanting to enter into a marriage do anything but enforce it?

  13. Obama is an opportunist. He will lie again and again. Just like Bush. Don't be partisan while the bankers steal America. The very private "Fed" is closing the noose along with their friends at Goldman-Sachs and their puppets in the White House and Congress.

Look at all the campaign promises he made -- dead, lying in the dust.

Curtailment of our liberties, trashing the Constitution and floating the idea of a 1-Branch Government (emperor? der fuhrer?)

And spending our money like a drunken sailor with a stolen credit card.

$15+ TRILLION in debt and ACCELERATING!

If our personal liberties don't mean anything, they might seem a bit more precious when that DEBT BUBBLE bursts!

President Ron Paul to the rescue!

  14. War on marriage?!?

How, exactly, does it affect [your] marriage if your next door neighbor is gay?
What a bunch of crap *that* old line of BS is!
Thank you Mr. Obama for being our first president to have the gonads to say it right.

And now that it's been said, it will be a cold day in you-know-where before another president of either party will dare to 'take it back'.

  15. In the interest of human rights and real democracy same-sex marriage should be supported and legalized. Same-sex marriage is no threat to traditional marriage; patriarchy and capitalism are.

  16. If President Obama declared June National Flower Month, the Republicans would come up with another shot across the bridge! Nobody is acknowledging the bottom line...and we all know what it is but the R's won't come out and say it!!!

  18. It's a wonderful week to be an American. It's a terrible week to be a gay republican. Now, more than ever, they've been exposed as the cowardly testicle-deprived wimps that we've all known they are.

  19. I've said it before and I'll say it again ... if the conservatives are sooooo terribly concerned about saving heterosexual marriage, why don't they concentrate on making DIVORCE ILLEGAL ???? Doesn't that honestly make more sense than telling people who can and cannot marry?

    Posted by: BeBe | May 11, 2012 2:46:12 PM

  20. They spelled "religious bigots" wrong.

It appears as Obama showed some balls, but he really has nothing to loose. This will alienate only those who would never vote for him anyway. His statement also carries no real weight as the decision is on the states, not the President.

It's not a question whether a rational person believes equal rights are the way to go, it's a question whether a politician will gain or loose votes by promoting or denying a particular one.

It all boils down to catering to the lowest common denominator. It's not Obama endorsing the gay marriage but the America as a whole reaching the point when such an endorsement is not a political suicide any more. Congratulations America, it took you long enough.

  21. Until one of his little girls want to marry another women, this won't be anything but a political move.
I am sadden my his decision to support alternative marriage. He says he is a believer I guest the republican were correct. of course they are represented by a Mormon this country is in a serious state of demoralization

  22. "if the conservatives are sooooo terribly concerned about saving heterosexual marriage, why don't they concentrate on making DIVORCE ILLEGAL ????"

Two reasons. One is that making divorce illegal (as opposed to just trying to curtail it somewhat) would probably lead to marriage rates declining, as too many people would be afraid to end up "stuck" in a bad marriage. The other is that it is very hard to come up with policies that reduce the divorce rate without being genuinely oppressive. so conservatives concentrate on keeping gay marriage illegal (something far easier to do.) Also, confronting the high divorce rate requires to some extent blaming the American people themselves for the nation's moral decline, and conservatives, despite what they always say, are scared s***less of the American people (which is why the nation's problems are always blamed on "elites", liberal ones, that is.)

I'd write more, but it's Sunday and I'm off to church.........!

  23. I am appalled by this information stand by Obama. He is not a Christian if he does not for Jewdeo Christian ethics. He is a questionable believer, believing whatever will assist him in the election. Unfortunately he has mad many wrong choices and this is another one.If he was a believer he would not go against the word of the Lord in the Bible. I saw nowhere in it that it said Adam married another Adam or Eve was created for another Eve. I am sure people have convinced themselves that if u love someone it is ok but it was never Gods instruction for us so it is unacceptable for our country. Wake up and walk in wisdom not fleshly dictates.

  25. Sorry, "Rev", I ain't buyin. Even the most semi-literate pastor (assuming such an entity is not a contradition in terms) would never misspell "Judeo-Christian" as "Jewdeo Christian." I call T-R-O-L-L.
