Gay X-Man Northstar's Wedding To Be Announced On 'The View'?

XMenSaveTheDateDespite the fact that we all know that gay X-Man Northstar will soon marry his boyfriend, publisher Marvel has remained cagey on the details.

That will most likely change tomorrow, because the ladies of The View will be making a "major Marvel announcement" that "will have everyone talking," Bleeding Cool reports.

Meanwhile, DC Comics publicity veep Courtney Simmons spoke to ABC News about their "reintroduction" of a known character as gay and said the hero will be "iconic."

“One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June,” she said.

This lends some credence to speculation that the new gay hero will be Superman from Earth-2. Yeah, there are parallel worlds and parallel Supermen. It's a comic book, so they can get away with it, but DC had better not go too far. We know all what happens then.

As for the recent spate of gay characters in comic books, Matt Kane from GLAAD remarked to ABC: “DC and (archrival) Marvel are recognizing that there is an LGBT audience that has been reading their comics for years. When creating these fictional worlds it’s important to show the full diversity.”

Curiously, Kane's last name is the same as lesbian hero Batwoman's alter ego, Kate Kane. Coincidence?

  1. To let my geek flag fly, Kate Kane (A.K.A. Batwoman) is named after Batman’s creator Bob Kane.

  2. Well,as they've already killed off the Superman of Earth 2, I'm doubting it will be him.

  3. I got my first comic book around the age of three. With five older brothers I became the hoarder of the family saving the comics my brothers no longer wanted. By 4/5 I was an avid reader and that reading help to propel me a grade in school and taught me how to build a story line. Today our son is an avid electronic (as well as hard-copy) comic reader. He's five and has a reading, writing and drawing level above his other kindergarten classmates - even takes Archie to school on his iPad for class reading. As a kid I would have been thrilled to see a gay comic character - I thought I was the only kid who was "queer" and felt very much an outsider. A gay comic character would have said I wasn't alone.

I applaud Marvel and DC comics for 'coming of age' and admitting gay people/characters are a major part of our world. I encourage all readers to involve yourselves and your kids, nieces, nephews and god-children in the world of comics.

  4. Don't think it will be a Superman, and Batman would be too obvious. "Green Arrow", the protector of liberal causes, springs to mind.

  5. Earth 2 Superman? Lame.

It should be Superboy. Cyborg, clone, gay man.

  6. My guess - it will be someone popular enough that non-fans can recognize the character and not quite popular enough that if DC receives any push back from fans the character can recede back into the woodwork - maybe Tim Drake or one of the Flashes. However, I do not imagine there will be much push back, considering how popular comic LGBT characters such as Batwoman, Hulkling, Wiccan, and Kevin Kellar are.

  7. It's a good thing Batwoman is named after Bob Kane one creator of Batman, rather than the other one: Bill Finger. Just sayin'! :)

  8. Well, the Superman of Earth 2 just died, so that wouldn't work very well. And before he died, he was mourning the loss of his true love, his recently deceased wife, Lois Lane.

I am betting on the Flash or Green Lantern.

  9. Billy Batson, teenage alter ego of Shazam/Capt. Marvel is a popular guess right now. He's been bullied and has a secret he hides from everybody he knows. The metaphors are all there...

  10. Jimmy Olsen. Cute, spunky, and easy to please.

It does say "One of the major iconic DC characters", not DC Comics superhero.

  11. Doesn't the Superman of Earth 2 die in the first issue?

    Posted by: Steve | May 22, 2012 12:58:19 PM

  12. Superman was an alien, making his sexuality something like "exosexual". If you consider him a superior life form then he might be a "zoophile". There is also much speculative science regarding the dangers of trying to mate with Superman.

  13. 9yr Old disabled boy announces gay heroes big companies follow;

    http://rangersuniverse.weebly.com/super-smash-comixzs-comics-press-release--cnn-new-york-times.html

BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA, April 24, 2012- "Every child has dreamed of being a Super Hero, the difference is SUPER SMASH COMIXZ takes on the REAL villains," said AEYLIAS LOPEZ & AMALY LOPEZ, CEOS of SUPER SMASH. "KIDS know what's going on-adults just don't give them credit; KONY & DARFUR top my list. I'm PROUD of George Clooney for getting arrested for Darfur and LADY GAGA's zero tolerance for bullies. They GAINED a new ally in their fight. Comics need to stop skirmishing with imaginary enemies and predominantly pretend emergencies. There's too many genuine circumstance that need to be talked about. It's inhumane to ignore them."

What you imagine can NOT be more important nor interesting than Reality. Look at "THE HUNGER GAMES"--in the FUTURE bad things happen? What about right here and now? Like Modern Day slavery.

George gets it and hated jail-he did it because we can not tolerate DARFUR and these human rights violations. GAGA understand this-still it's unfair to expect adults to do it alone. .

Inhabitants of Earth open the Pandora's Box to THE UNIVERSE. Worse THE RANGERS are saddled with the unpopular idea that heroes seldom prevail and its your mission to rise up against impossible odds. George said Darfur was his 'biggest failure" yet it's what meaningful people respect him for. Look at Lady GAGA having to defend Gay people. Hey GAGA one of my heroes was "BORN THAT WAY.' The Rangers are the real world, African, Latinos & Asian & Indians. There's THE BIG BANG MACHINE, HYPER NOVAS & THE PLANET X -all real. With the backdrop of THE RANGER-CORE having nano-technology suits from The Lost Dimension and have incredible and fun powers facing down foes that would make comic book villains cringe-perhaps even faint.

Most stories are predictable; when's the last time an ending surprised you? Just because you take on a fight does not assure success. Anyone that expects this to be a kiddy comic book better go buy the comics that the adults are writing."

"My birth defects aren't limitations; I have been going to Rancho Los Amigos for rehab. Stacy and Katie from Muscular Dystrophy Association referred me. Hangar Orthotics of L A is helping me get my complicated leg braces-I'm SO lucky people care! I was born with a condition that doesn't allow me to keep my feet or hips in line-so it's a pain in the butt to run --I fall too much. I already had BULLYING issues at 2 separate schools-the adults were just DREADFUL at handling. I personally have had it with bullies-they are toast and so are the adults that stand by and do nothing."

I've been through a lot in the last year--but as The Rangers forge ahead I go with them.

Creatively, I have my contradiction. I want to take on the actual world yet I want to make the books colorful and full of what I call "still motion graphics", to do the art in such a way that it looks like it's moving and A LOT of onomatopoeia.

The book official releases is July 16, 2012, and is distributed by SUPER SMASH COMIXS and retailers and I'm TRYING to get in the San Diego Comic Con this July 12, 2012.

    EXPECT A SMASH, BOOM & KA-POW, BATMAN!

Part of our proceed will go to MDA, KONY 2012 and the cause to end modern day slavery.

AGENTS HOSTING BONE MARROW DRIVE FOR KAI QUINONEZ, RAFFLE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR IPAD

Kai Quinonez is like any 8-year-old boy.

He is active in sports, loves playing with the dogs and hanging out with his brother Klaus.

But that changed in October when he was diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anemia, a rare blood ailment that affects one in a million people.

Kai is not alone in his fight against this rare ailment.

Keller Williams Realty in cooperation with the Los Alamitos Police Officers Association (LAPOA) will be hosting a bone marrow drive with Be The Match, on March 26 between 11 am and 3 pm. Be The Match is supplying the Bone Marrow Match Kits.

Long Beach Memorial is also hosting a blood drive in conjunction with the bone marrow drive.

"Officer Chris Karrer has been phenomenal in working with Be The Match and helping to get the bone marrow drive off the ground," said Elaine Armogida, team leader at Keller Williams Realty Los Alamitos, where Kai's dad Gus is an agent. "He heard about our raffle and volunteered to help in any way he could."

Additionally, personnel from the Long Beach Police Department (part of National Law Enforcement Cancer Support Foundation) will also lend a hand to help with the bone marrow drive.

"We are also thankful for the help from Commander Josef Levy, from the Long Beach Police Department," added Armogida. "He is the President of the foundation and has offered to help where needed." Levy himself is a cancer survivor.

The Be The Match Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it.

"But the local community has rallied around to help Kai's family try to deal with not only taking care of Kai but to help with the staggering medical costs," said Armogida. "The agents at Keller Williams have been raffling off tickets for people to win an IPad and have the bone marrow drive in an effort to help Kai."

"Getting the bone marrow sample is very easy." said Armogida. "They do a simple swab on the inside of your cheek and it's done."

Aplastic anemia is a condition where bone marrow does not produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells. The condition, per its name, involves both aplasia and anemia. Typically, anemia refers to low red blood cell counts, but aplastic anemia patients have lower counts of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, termed pancytopenia.

Kai is undergoing 2 six month rounds of chemotherapy and weekly transfusions of blood and platelets. He recently had to return to the hospital after getting an infection.

For more information on helping Kai or purchasing a raffle ticket, please call Elaine Armogida at (562) 626-8623. To reach Officer Josef Levy please e-mail him at josef.levy@longbeach.gov. To reach Officer Chris Karrer please e-mail at ckarrer@losalpoa.com.

Rossmoor Burglars Steal From Child Fighting for Life Against Rare Disease

Thieves ransack a house and take $25,000 worth of items, including Kai Quinonez's Wii console and games.

    By Paige Austin

This week, burglars ransacked the Rossmoor home of a little boy fighting for his life against a rare blood disease.

The Quinonez family had just moved into the home on Martha Ann on Saturday, and they were burglarized on Tuesday evening when they left to see a movie. The crime is the latest in an unsettling series of burglaries the quiet Rossmoor community.

Among the $25,000 worth of items stolen was the Nintendo Wii of Kai Quinonez, the Hopkinson Elementary School third-grader undergoing chemotherapy for a rare blood disease called Aplastic Anemia. Over the last year, the community has been rooting for Kai’s recovery and organizing multiple bone marrow drives and fundraisers on his behalf.

“They took everything and ransacked the house,” said Gus Quinonez, Kai’s father. “They took -the flat screen TV, the kids’ Wii set-up and games, my wife’s mother’s ring, and cash that my aunt in Germany sent the kids.”

The thief or thieves made several attempts to break into the home, using a crowbar to try to gain entry in the front and back doors. In the end, they just smashed a window to get in.

Despite the loss of valuables and irreplaceables, the Quinonez family—Gus and wife, Beth and Kai, and his brother, Klaus—had no problem putting the incident in perspective. Their energy is focused on an upcoming trip to a hospital in Wisconsin that offers the best chance for Kai to receive a potentially life-saving bone marrow transplant.

“The kids were upset about it, but I told them, ‘Everything can be replaced,’” said Gus Quinonez. “They’re actually really excited because I told them that after the (bone marrow) transplant, we’ll get a big German shepherd. They got to meet the police dog in the house, and they liked that. Kai is such a trooper.”

The Quinonez family remains upbeat despite several setbacks this year. Chemotherapy treatment has not been successful for Kai, and he ended up back in the hospital on the Fourth of July, said Dennis Berry, who works at Keller Williams Reality in Los Alamitos with Gus Quinonez. In the spring, a Sunset Beach house for sale and listed by Gus Quinonez was burnt to the ground, and now the family has been robbed, said Berry.

“It’s been a rough year for the family,” added Berry.

“It has been a bad year, but hopefully we’ll get a match for Kai,” said Gus Quinonez. The family will meet with Wisconsin Pediatric Hematologist David Margolis, who specializes in Aplastic Anemia and bone marrow transplants that don’t involve siblings. If a bone marrow transplant becomes Kai’s best chance, he will stay in Wisconsin with his mother for six months for the surgery and treatment.

To help with the costs, Keller Williams Cares donated $22,400 for the family’s medical bills. Every bit helps because a bone marrow transplant can cost as much as $1 million, said Berry. The real estate agency is also encouraging people to drop by the agency for a quick cheek swab to register as bone marrow donors. The agency’s office is at 10900 Los Alamitos Blvd., Suite 160. For more information, go to Kai's Page.
