Romney Confirms Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage and Civil Unions

Denver_romneyOn a visit to Denver Wednesday morning, Mitt Romney confirmed his position on same-sex marriage and civil unions, KDVR reports:

“Well, when these issues were raised in my state of Massachusetts, I indicated my view, which is I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name,” Romney said during a visit to Fort Lupton. “My view is the domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not.”

  2. Don't worry. He'll be for it before he's against it again soon enough.

  3. OK, Log Cabinites, spin that!

  4. What "others" specifically are not?

  5. Romney, why some rights and not others?

He's just pandering to moderates and gay republicans.

  6. The reason gay republicans think this is acceptable is because it's the same thing they're told by their families and communities.

not love. not acceptance. not understanding.
tolerance, as long as you abide by their bigoted views.

  7. Have you noticed that he uses the word "Well" a lot. And he's a Mormon, so let's not expect him to support us, ok.

  8. Dear Probable Candidate Mitt Romney:

    F*ck you.

    Love,
    Me

P.S. The Log Cabinettes and the GoProudGirls love you.

  9. There you have it. A presidential candidate who completely believes that rights are for some, but not all. That second class citizenship is a reality and good for a 'democracy'. And that DEPRIVING PEOPLE of their rights is totally Constitutional. And that Sky Faeries have told him to use America to destroy LGBT families.

Which means he'll have no problem reclassifying and removing gays at will from their jobs. As teachers. As doctors. As politicians....

And as he also believe in Religious Objections for service providers both public and private, he'll have no problem decreeing gays don't deserve other legal protections.

You think that's alarmist? You're not paying attention to their words and actions which, unlike normal political rhetoric, are completely in line with each other.

So let me ask you LCR folk out there: now that the homophobes are in front of the camera telling YOU they are coming for YOU...

...how are you going to support Republicans any more.

    HUH???

I guess you can all rally behind Ron 'the grand KKK Wizzard" Paul

This candidate,, and his ilk are real monsters...out in the open...and in the 21st century, a whole lot worse that Adolph.

And sorry, that whole Godwin's rule thing... Definately doesn't apply here because Romney is actually acting like Hitler.

  10. This must be followed up on. Precisely which rights that straight people get do gay people not deserve? The media needs to demand a followup answer.

The social security benefits they paid for?
    Inheritance rights?
    Sponsoring a spouse for citizenship?
Immunity from testifying against a spouse?
Becoming God of your own planet together?

    Do tell, Mitt. Be precise.

  11. A F----ING right wing GUTLESS PUPPET!

  12. There you have it. The line has been drawn today. Obama, rather meekly, but on the side of gay rights. Mitt, a tool with shifting views, on the side of the Tea Party and Christian fundamentalists.

If I see a gay person on this board trying to make the case for Mitt after today, I want them identified so that we can study them for science.

  13. @Lymis - Excellent point. Unfortunately, our press is pathetic. They are afraid to ask any question of value for fear that they won't appear to be impartial. The irony is by not asking the questions, they are not being impartial. Instead we get questions like: Secretary Clinton, why didn't you wear makeup this morning? Again, pathetic!

  14. And I should add -- could you imagine if Romney then ALSO came out for gay marriage? If both candidates were pro-gay rights and essentially took this off the table?

  15. I agree with Evan. Before we hear the Log Cabin crowd and others praising this guy for his alleged openness to hopital visitation rights and "domestic partnership benefits", let's be absolutely clear that this is nothing more than a transparent attempt to placate "moderate" voters in places like the Denver suburbs and elsewhere where this election will be fought. This is a guy who has referred to being gay as "perverse", who spared no effort in his attempts to overturn marriage equality in Massachusetts (even dusting off a 1913 racist Massachusetts law as part of those efforts) and who has pledged to appoint Supreme Court justices like Antonin Scalia. You can be assured that, if God forbid this man should ever be elected, he would be doing nothing to advance "domestic partnership benefits". He's simply trying to win votes here, as much as the Log Cabin crowd (who have such great successes as the George W. Bush administration on their track record) might try to spin it otherwise.

  16. Being against same-sex marriage is just stupid, but at this point in history, being against comprehensive civil unions is just being plain nasty and vindictive.

  21. Ever since Reagan I have developed a deep seated, visceral hatred for Republicans. I have no Republican friends, nor do I want any. I have disowned and refuse to acknowledge the existence of family members that support this Republican party. I've tried reason and have attempted tolerance, but it has been a one way street. There is no longer any hope for reason, compromise or bipartisanship. It's their way or no way, even if it means destruction of the nation. I find Republicans differ from me in so many ways, we have nothing in common, including humanity.

I really do not like the fact that I have been so horribly moved by the Republican evil mindset that I believe whole heartily that anyone who supports them supports pure evil. But, these are not the Republicans of Eisenhower, Dirkson or even George Romney. They are the party of Atwater, Rove, Cheney, the dysfunctional Bush family, Gingrich, Delay, Santorum, Romney and a host of other intellectually and morally bankrupt political whores. The ignorant and the wicked have claimed ownership of the GOP and they are as treacherous and as dangerous as any fascist demagogue to come off the conveyor belt of putrid, vile politicians in the last 70 years.

Republicans want to take us back to the dark ages when rich despots and religious monsters ruled with iron fists. They have become a group that attacks and alienate not just the GLBT peoples, but Hispanics, all people of color, women, the aged, children, the sick and disabled and the average wage earner, especially if that wage earner is a union member.

Romney must not win this election. But just as important as sending Romney to political hell with a gigantic electoral defeat is destroying every vestige of this Republican party at every level. Gay Republicans should be shunned, humiliated and isolated like the cancer they are. They must be excised like a festering tumor from the Gay community. They are Quislings and willing executioners who will sell their souls and sell out our community for the untaxed dollar.

If you are a working wage earner, elderly, disabled, a woman of childbearing age, a person of color or Hispanic, or a member of the GLBT comminity and vote for a Republican, you need your head examined and have forfeited your soul for some wicked inhuman idea.

  22. I'm borderline anarchist these days, but

    1) No one defines your life for you--only you. If you get married, you're married. You don't need the state to sanctify it.

    2) The fact that "marriage" comes with a granting of rights in any respect--gay or straight, is absolute and total BS.

Why is there any gratitude whatsoever when someone from the government says they believe you should have equal rights? You DO have equal rights, they've just usurped and then given them back.

That's like me stealing your sneakers and then begrudgingly telling you that I've come around the to the fact that those sneakers belong to you and handing them back.
