Democratic Congressman Mike Honda Starting Anti-Bullying Caucus

MikeHondaDemocratic Congressman Mike Honda and about three dozen of his Capitol Hill colleagues will officially launch their Anti-Bullying Caucus tomorrow.

"The health, safety, competitiveness and moral fiber of America is threatened by a bullying epidemic that affects more than 13 million children each year," Honda said in a press release sent out this afternoon.

The California native went on, "As an educator of 30 years and a member of Congress who was bullied as a child, I I have formed the Anti-Bullying Caucus to empower each constituency in the anti-bullying movement... The Anti-Bullying Caucus seeks to focus the energy and effort of the movement to forge a path forward to stop bullying -- both offline and online."

You can read the Anti-Bullying Caucus' mission statement AFTER THE JUMP.

Congressional Anti-Bullying Caucus - Mission Statement:

The Congressional Anti-Bullying Caucus (CABC) is a bipartisan caucus comprised of Members of Congress committed to the belief that all communities deserve a safe environment to thrive, and that  our nation is in urgent need of solutions that stop bullying – both offline and online – now and forever.
The caucus represents the interests of the American people in creating safe spaces for our children, our elderly, and our peers.

Founder and Chair Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17) welcomes your interest and support for the caucus.

The CABC is committed to the following principles:

    •    Uncovering all forms of bullying, from school bullying to elder abuse to LGBT discrimination, and making it possible for victims of bullying to come forward.

    •    Protecting all individuals that are victims of any and all forms of bullying.

    •    Preventing bullying behavior by recognizing its manifestation as symptomatic of other, larger issues. Bullying affects both the bully and the victim—by targeting these issues, rather than just the bullies themselves, we can stop bullying in America.

  1. THANK YOU MIKE HONDA! For once, a legislator actually singles out LGBT discrimination.

We've had a year of legislators glibly saying "all bullying is wrong" and ignoring the anti-gay bias causing the incidents, whilst they go ahead and draft another piece of discriminatory legislation.

As for the final mission, "targeting... other, larger issues" that cause the bullying, EVERYONE knows what the issue is: 99% caused by the effects of organized religious institutions. So I hope you do target them!

  2. Wonder if this policy will apply to law enforcement agencies and the military? Some of the biggest bullies hide amongst their ranks

  3. A suggestion: If your child is being bullied or on the shy and gentle side and is in danger of being bullied; sign him or her up at a good Martial Arts school or a self defense course. The one thing that all bullies have in common is that they want to hurt others without getting hurt themselves. When they realize that their prey may be able to seriously hurt them, they almost always back off.

  4. Thank you...Let's begin with the workplace. Adults have to be the breadwinners and support our families.

This abuse is rampant in workplaces and employers will not voluntarily do anything at all about it, but for retaliating against the target.

Our economic survival tends to by in large create the stability needed to grow successful and pleasant, moral families. When the footing of economic and psychological safety is gone...the entire foundation is in jeopardy. The children that we turn out of depressed homes where parents have been bullied and abused severely at work tend to grow into amoral, unstable and depressed bullying criminal folks themselves.

All very unproductive to the United States and world at large.
