Youngest-Ever Olympic Diving Hopeful Has Two Gay Dads and is Leading Central Indiana's Pride Parade

Gaydads

Do yourselves a favor and head to the Indianapolis Star to read this story about Jordan Windle, the youngest-ever Olympic diving hopeful and tell me if Jerry Windle is not doing a better job at being a father than the Indiana 'Christians' who are raising this child?

From the Indy Star:

The young athlete's decision to accept the parade invitation -- and the fact that he has two fathers -- is sure to raise eyebrows. But what other people think isn't of concern to the 13-year-old. He views the world so unself-consciously that when asked if he ever gets tired of people questioning him about his origins and his family, he simply shrugged. "I've never actually thought about it."

  1. This is a fantastic story, although I do worry about children that young competing in international sport.

  2. This story is heartbreakingly beautiful; I found myself sobbing tears of joy. While it is good to be concerned about so young a child entering the world of competitive sport, the truth is that this is the way it is done in the world of the Olympics and it is clear from the story that he is not being pressured to "win" at so young an age -- just to study and learn. We would think nothing of it if he were a superior musician -- a violinist or a pianist -- and engaged at accelerated training; why should a superior athlete be any different? That his dads were willing to relocate and find new jobs to give the boy the best possible advantages speaks to the devotion and love in that family.

  3. "...is sure to raise eyebrows"

Unnecessary sensationalism in an otherwise great piece.

  4. WOW...That is how we win! Our truths to their lies.

  5. I live in Tacoma and if they allow spectators my husband and I will be in Seattle rooting for Jordan.

  6. Look at the genuine smile of love and contentment on his face and the happy pride his dads have beaming on theirs. This is real family love and that photograph should be reproduced and distributed until it becomes an iconic image in the struggle for real equality and genuine acceptance for same sex marraige and our families. More than words, this is what defeats the hatemongers.

  7. I am president of Indy Pride, the parent organization of Circle City IN Pride, and we are so happy to be a small part of bringing this amazing story of love and family to you. It could not come at a better time, and it shines the light of love on the shadow of hate that was coming out of Greensburg, IN the day before.

Thank you, Andy, for extending the reach of this story.

  9. The evangelical scumbags aren't going to like this one bit. God bless this kid and his two dads, though. Have a great time, little guy!

The evangie-fundies need to understand that sex does not define who we are. Being gay is more than sex. It is a matter of our humanity, who we are as people.

  10. If this kid doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you have no heart, but Rick Santorum would rather this kid have a dad in prison and a drug addicted mom than 2 dads, or still be in the orphanage. Michele Bachmann would ignore it altogether and change the subject. Evangelical preachers would rather kill the dads or put them in an electric fence. Tony Perkins would repeat "A child needs a mother and father" over and over. Maggie Gallagher would continue to look fat.

  13. This is the future of gay rights. Kids like Jordan who grow up in loving households, knowing in their hearts that the anti-gay forces are hate-mongers, then voting to protect their families.

And I disagree about kids who are superior musicians. Pressure is pressure and a lot of child musical prodigies burn out by the time they reach adulthood.

  14. The subtle red-white-blue theme was clever.

  15. Okay I watched the vid. I lost it at "somewhere in the world is a boy or girl who would love to have dad or a mom like you."

  16. I love this story!

  17. This made me shed a few tears of joy. Such a great kid and such a beautiful family. The contrast with the way the Xtian haters warp and abuse their own children could not be clearer.

  18. He probably has millions of fans and well-wishers by now (he has quite a few YouTubes), and deservedly so. Wishing you the best in everything, Jordan.

  19. It looks like the Disney Channel did a little interview with Jordan a few years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=AtteNj_Yr4Q#! - - GOOD LUCK!

  20. The more LGBT families with kids are out in the open for all of America to see, the faster views will be liberalized. This story is lovely. The 40,000 Moms are already starting to see their membership shrink and stories like this will only cause more shrinkage. Let's hope that most of these lost members don't end up on Towleroad, though. It could get might crowded here!

  21. Love this to bits! Hope they touch lots of hearts and minds.

  22. Rick Santorum is desperately looking for some murderer doing life to save this boy from the horrendously empty life he's living. So tragic......no support, no goals, no ambition. THIS poor, poor child...

    Posted by: Michaelandfred | Jun 1, 2012 5:56:16 PM

  23. Yes, MichaelandFred. But first he'll have to see if the murderer knows the difference between a napkin and a paper towel because if not he might be gay. And come to think of it, "he might be gay" would be a great name for a performance artist. Kind of like the music group "they might be giants."

  24. @Jim: actually Bachmann wouldn't change the subject. She would just make some outlandish claims that aren't supported by reality...or she would just blame Obama! Lol

  25. What a great story! Thanks for posting it. The picture caught my eye - what a happy, good looking, normal family. I shared it on my blog as well - I think the world needs to see what amazing families the LGBT community has!
