Watch LIVE: Senate HELP Committee Holds Hearing on Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)

Live on CSPAN HERE.

EndaThe Senate HELP Committee hears about employment discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans. Chair Tom Harkin (D-IA) will also examine the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would ban discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation in work places with 15 or more employees.

Recently, the White House angered LGBT advocates when it decided against issuing an executive order blocking same-sex discrimination by federal contractors. The Obama administration then came out in favor of ENDA, though there seems unlikely that the employment discrimination bill will pass in this session of Congress.

Witnesses include: M. V. Lee Badgett, Research Director, Williams Institute for Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, University of California at Los Angeles; Samuel Bagenstos, Professor of Law, University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Ken Charles, vice president of Diversity and Inclusion, General Mills Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Craig Parshal, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, National Religious Broadcasters Association, Manassas, Virginia.

Here's another option for viewing with more background on witnesses.

Hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 am ET.

  1. WTF does a religious broadcaster testifying about anti-gay discrimination have as credible evidence that ENDA is not necessary legislation?

  2. The hearing is over, but can be seen here:

Interestingly, this hearing was historic in that it had the first transgender witness to appear before a senate committee hearing. Also interesting is that that historic witness, Kylar Broadus, is the only witness not listed as having appeared. The other four witnesses are listed on the CSPAN page. They should correct that slight.
