Romney Aide Assures UK Paper That 'Anglo-Saxon' Mitt Understands Britain, Unlike African Obama

Mitt Romney is on his way to London, and aides told the UK paper Telegraph that Mitt will have better ties with Britain as President because he's a white guy:

RomneyIn remarks that may prompt accusations of racial insensitivity, one suggested that Mr Romney was better placed to understand the depth of ties between the two countries than Mr Obama, whose father was from Africa.

“We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the adviser said of Mr Romney, adding: “The White House didn’t fully appreciate the shared history we have”.

Mr Romney on Wednesday embarks on an overseas tour of Britain, Israel and Poland designed to quash claims by Mr Obama’s team that he is a “novice” in foreign affairs. It comes four years after Mr Obama’s own landmark foreign tour, which attracted thousands of supporters.

They also told the Telegraph that Obama is "comfortable with American decline":

“In contrast to President Obama, whose first instinct is to reach out to America’s adversaries, the Governor’s first impulse is to consult and co-ordinate and to move closer to our friends and allies overseas so they can rely on American constancy and strength,” one told the Telegraph.

“Obama is a Left-winger," said another. "He doesn’t value the Nato alliance as much, he’s very comfortable with American decline and the traditional alliances don’t mean as much to him. He wouldn’t like singing ‘Land of Hope and Glory'.”

The two advisers said Mr Romney would seek to reinstate the Churchill bust displayed in the Oval Office by George W. Bush but returned to British diplomats by Mr Obama when he took office in 2009.

  1. I read the article and couldn't see any quotes regarding "white guy" etc. Talk about word twisting....

  2. Mr. Obama is biracial. He would understand BOTH of his heritages.

  3. More racist crap from the racist Republican Party. I'm not one bit surprised that that slimy Mitt Romney is peddling it.

  4. Of course removing the gift of a Churchill bust from the White House and sending it back to England, and giving the Queen of England the gift of an iPod of "MY SPEECHES" can only help.

Wonder what the Queen did with that iPod.

  5. There isn't a true British aristocrat who doesn't feel anything for utter contempt for just about everything about the brash, vulgar USA. So Romney and his hayseed advisors from Utah can suck up all they want, but no British bluebloods are ever going to want to entertain Mitt under their roof.

  6. Oi!

is that strike 3 then on romney foreign relations?

-strike 1 was lying about saying he had a meeting with the australian foreign minister which the australian FM refuted and said was a chance encounter in a SF hotel....and romney misquoted the guy saying the opposite of what he actually said thus causing foreign dignitaries to joke that they should never ever talk to romney without a camera or recorder present

-strike 2 yesterday lambasting Obama for afgan pull out a end of 2014 then in next sentence saying romney himself would pull troops out at the end of 2014

    - strike 3 this racist shenanigans.....

If BiBi is smart he won't allow mittens plane to land in Israel because the dude is damaged goods

  7. British conservatives view Romney as a relic. His views are so archaic, backward and retrenched. The British public in general will not understand how such a nasty piece of work even has the nerve to grace the British Isles with his disgusting brand of politics. Obama is loved throughout Europe. Romney you are a fool if you think you can win over Britain you pompous arse.

  8. and to come to multi racial, progressive left leaning England and pull the Anglo Saxon line ? What the hell is that ? After all the criticisms you have laid about us crazy Socialist Marxist Europeans over the years IN THE PRESS you really think we will buy you as a leader ?

  11. So Romney plays the race card. So at least it is out in the open now. He is playing the same white racist strategy of Nixon and Reagan. But England I fear will not approve. LOL

  12. I suppose the Romnoid doesn't know about the British Empire (of which Kenya was a colony).

  13. Obama's foreign policy is to let homophobic Islamist regimes take over the Middle East. How does that make you feel as a gay man? Spare a thought for your gay brothers who will be swinging from cranes as a result of these regimes.

  14. President Obama is very well liked and respected in the UK by most Brits from the Queen downwards and by politicians on both sides.

No one takes all this nonsense about the Churchill bust seriously. What matters is that the British govt. knows where it stands with Obama's administration, even if they don't always agree on issues.

The UK got badly burned by getting too close to the last Republican president and drawn into the whole Iraq mess. UK politicians, even right wing ones, simply don't understand or trust the wilder reaches of the Tea Party.

Obama has charmed the Brits with his old school manners and style, it will take a lot to convince us that there is anything wrong with him as president.

  15. Jason.. How would GOP presidents policies change that? The only difference would be that a GOP president would bomb the middle east, but gay people would be just as badly off, or worse, as happened in Iraq.

  16. If Willard's ancestors were so proud of their Anglo-Saxon heritage why did they flee to Mexico? Whereas, Obama is a 13th-generation descendant of one of the Plymouth colony’s earliest settlers, Thomas Blossom. I hope Willard continues to keep putting is foot in his mouth on his Europe tour.

  17. In all fairness, it's no secret Obama dislikes the British.

As for Anglo-Saxon heritage, I'm part Anglo-Saxon and am not an Anglophile. And I've never met a true Englishman or woman who respected American Anglophiles. Usually they laugh at them.

  18. The Mormon Church has a long history of racial hatred towards non-white folks. Mitt Romney was an adult when the head of the Mormon church had one of those magical revelations, that Africans were actually human. Romney was raised in this culture- it does not surprise me that his advisors include open racists.

  19. No one generalizes the way Ratbastard generalizes. He's made an artform of it.

  21. Jason just likes to take a subject -- no matter the subject -- and be on the opposite side. If this site posted a story about the birth of puppies, Jason would proclaim that more puppies need to be drowned and that soon there will be a food shortage.

  22. "it's no secret Obama dislikes the British"!
Well, its news to me, and I'm British.

As for Romney understanding Britain better because he's white, he obviously hasn't been there recently. If he's a racist, he's not going to like what he finds, and the joke's going to be on him.

  23. IMHO, there have been way too many political stories and obama ads that have nothing to do with gay things. if i wanted to have think progress on my RSS, i would put it there...

  24. I just love those clever republicons and the creative ways they are able to get those racist code words out there and not even bat an eye or feel any amount of shame whatsoever.

Uh, so when are the republicon racists going to remember that 50% of Obama is, uh, Anglo-Saxon and that he just might understand that part of his, uh, "heritage", which basically is all about going through life like you've got a broomstick stuck up your @$$.

Nah, maybe Obama would be better off sticking with the other 50% of his heritage.

  25. It's 2012, so why are people still saying garbage like this. There are a whole lot of legitimate issues that can be used to attack the President, so why bring up race. It's like these people don't even want to take the time to do their research, so that they can come up with valid arguments. It is just mind boggling, and I'm sure that anyone who calls them out on this will be accused of using the race card.
