Newly-Appointed SF Archbishop, 'Father of Prop 8', Arrested in San Diego DUI

CordileoneOakland Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, who was recently named by Pope Benedict as the new Archbishop of San Francisco and a central strategist in the campaign to pass Proposition 8 in California, was arrested for driving under the influence, the San Diego Union Tribune reports:

Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, 56, who was appointed archbishop in July, was taken into custody Saturday at 12:26 a.m. after being stopped on College Avenue near Montezuma Road, police said. Cordileone, who is a San Diego native, was booked into county jail on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence and later posted bail...he Archdiocese of San Francisco has not returned a call asking for comment on the arrest.

In June,  Cordileone attempted to force a LGBT Catholic group to sign an oath of integrity which included remaining celibate.

  6. Those familiar with the area: just how active is this area for gay hook-ups, monetarily compensated or otherwise?

  7. With respect to the question "Was he on his way home from a gay bar," one might point out the obvious answer: no. Unlike mere state senators, archbishops do not go to gay bars. Rather, when so inclined, they would have a bar come to them. That way they can screen guests for cameras so things really stay under wraps. Ask Prince Harry, who it appears had a staff lax in the screening department.

  9. It's right beside SDSU campus. It's not known for gay hook ups or anything like that. Just lots of college kids, dorms, apartments, condos, etc.

  13. Iris, stop it. It's not his fault, the communal wine just proves too tempting for some of them. And that's why we Lutherans use grape Kool-Aid for the blood of Christ.

  14. "Father of Prop 8"???? While I celebrate anything that makes this neofascist in Vatican drag look bad to his flock, the recent news stories giving him sole credit for Prop H8TE forgot that the man who he'll replace as San Francisco Archbishop, George Neiderauer, was an even bigger agent of evil in 2008 when he created an alliance with Mormon Church leaders that, per the SF Chron then, formed “the backbone of the fundraising, organizing, and voting support” to kill then-legal marriage equality in California.
