Presidential Debate Moderators Announced; Candy Crowley to Be First Woman in 20 Years
The Commission on Presidential Debates has chosen the moderators for the upcoming tussles, Politico reports:
PBS's Jim Lehrer will host the first presidential debate on October 3 in Denver, Colo. CNN's Candy Crowley will host the second, town-hall debate on October 16 in Hempstead, N.Y. CBS's Bob Schieffer will host the third debate on October 22 in Boca Raton, Fla. ABC's Martha Raddatz will host the vice presidential debate on October 11 in Danville, Ky.
Crowley will be the first woman to moderate in 20 years:
The last woman to moderate a presidential debate was Carole Simpson in 1992. Barbara Walters also hosted two presidential debates, in 1976 and 1984.
In July Crowley moderated a U.S. Senate debate in Virginia between former Governors George Allen and Tim Kaine. She also moderated a debate between U.S. Senate candidates in Florida ahead of the 2010 election.
