Pope Tells French Bishops 'Defective' Gay Nups 'Threaten' Society

PopeBenTaking off his mitre and putting on his engineer's cap for a moment, Pope Benedict XVI yesterday deemed same-sex marriages "defective" during a speech before French bishops.

The Pope's remarks come as French politicians debate potential legalization of marriage equality, and clearly the Pope wants his Franco peers to use their religious influence to keep the status quo.

"The family is threatened by a conception of human nature that is proven to be defective," said the leader of the Catholic Church. "Defending the family and life in society is prophetic and anything but regressive. Marriage and the family are institutions that must be promoted and defended from every possible misrepresentation of their true nature, since whatever is harmful to them will in fact be injurious to society itself."

Other translations from the original French report have the Pope saying that the family is "threatened in many places by a faulty conception of human nature," which is slightly different than "defective" but the diagnosis remains the same.

Benedict also told the Bishops, who have been very vocal in their opposition to equality in France, that they have a responsibility to "call us courageously and optimistically to seek a bold and creative response, by presenting the permanent newness of the Gospel."

Despite the Pope's protests, France seems set to pass equality sooner rather than later. President Francois Hollande and Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault have both indicated a bill will be introduced next month, which means, if the Pope is right, France will completely breakdown by Christmas. Mon dieu!

  1. How this troll in a dress can pass himself off to be a man of god is beyond me. Just look to Canada to see how society is affected by gay marriage. It's affected...in a good way. Nothing but rainbows and sunshine. Gay marriage is certainly better for society than the RCC.

  2. From yesterday: "The Roman Catholic Church in the Australian state of Victoria has confirmed that more than 600 children have been sexually abused by its priests since the 1930s. They were released in a submission to a state parliamentary inquiry into the handling of abuse cases. Campaigners say the true number of abuse victims could be up to 10,000."

Or then there's this, Polish teenage boys and girls on their hands and knees, participating in an initiation where they lick whipped cream from the knees of a priest. Nothing pervy or suggestive about that in the least! http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/polish-police-a-lather-creepy-initiation-photos-showing-teens-licking-whipped-cream-priest-knees-article-1.1163828

Now tell me again, why is it the Catholic Church is considered a moral authority on ANYTHING?! Is it due to their WORLDWIDE practice of ignoring child abuse and protecting pedophiles? Or maybe it's all the women they treated like slaves and forced to give up their babies if they were unwed. Was it lying to African parishioners by telling them that condoms don't prevent AIDS? Or their stellar work in smuggling Nazis out of Germany after WWII?

Gosh, it's so hard to choose between all their good works!

  3. The pope was a Nazi. I think I'll find moral guidance elsewhere.

  4. The Pope should be sent to The Hague to be tried for crimes against humanity.

  5. So, remind me again why I am supposed to show respect to this man or any of his followers?

The world will certainly not miss him when he's gone.

  10. The Pope went on to say that "Justin Bieber was sexier before he hit puberty" and that "Anne Frank was a lie made up by Jews who also lied about the Holocaust ever happening" so maybe we should relegate this pig's comments to the dung-heap where they belong.

  11. He should confine his comments to inside the church doors. Once he has the 'faithful' walking in lockstep, and he's far from that goal, then he can start talking to the rest of us non-believers.

  12. I never trust a man who simulates eating human flesh and drinking human blood on a daily basis.

  13. Gay's want freedom but spew hate while wanting to remove the Pope's freedom. Shame on you, all who have spoken out against the Pope will be punished as God rebukes you.

  14. The number of French Catholics attending mass on a regular basis is less than 5%. Maybe the pope should use what little influence he has left in countries where he is not irrelevant.

  15. "call us courageously and optimistically to seek a bold and creative response, by presenting the permanent newness of the Gospel."

Actually, the permanent newness of the Gospel is to support LGBT folk and their quest for marital equality.

If only the RC church realized that the doctrine of the "indefectibility of the church" really means that the church will not permanently be led into error. Unfortunately, its current configuration believes it could never be in error - past, present, or future.

  16. Shouldn't the Pope follow the logic of his religion and take a wife, just like Jesus ?

Or are they editing that story ?

  17. Is this guy dead yet? Or the way he looks, has his reanimated corpse given up the goat yet? Lets get that black female pope in there that Robyn was talking about

  18. Fine. Let the push themselves over the cliff of irrelevancy. Too bad they learned nothing in 1792.

  19. I love the way that most of the countries that have full gay marriage are historically very strong Catholic countries (Lutheran Scandinavia excepted), even outside of Europe. This tells me that the sense of the faithful is being ignored by the hierarchy, a status quo which is not sustainable in the long haul.

  20. of course, no scientific data exists to support Mr Ratzinger's claims; but like republicans, the boys in the Vatican don't trouble themselves with facts.

  22. Ya gotta hand it to the guy though. He holds up a wafer and the crowd bows and scrapes, and says, oh yeah, yessiree, that's the Lord and he's gonna be in me.

And in return for this show he gets wrapped up in silks and surrounded by gold ornaments. Whatta gig!

  23. Hey Ronnie.....if nobody is taking the Pope seriously, they're sure not worried about your declarations of rebuke from a 2,000 year old myth.

  24. The pope and his church are becoming more irrelevant every day. I wish I could live long enough to see the end of the reign of terror from all religions.
