1. Ted Baldwin says

One dead gay ambassador, that asked for help officially at least three times and not only did not get more but had what little protection he had taken away, was killed by the Taliban, and for two weeks the administration lied to us about that. They watched them being attacked and did nothing. Stevens could have been saved as he was in a safe room and held out for as long as it would have taken support to arrive.

They thought either Stevens was already dead, or he would be captured and ransomed. Well, they thought wrong.

It absolutely is fair game to call Obama out on this inexcusable fiasco. This is not partisan. THis is not politicking. This is the future of our country and its people. There are not two sides to this. Either we protect our people or we do not.

  2. Icebloo says

Romney is a Republican. Republicans would sell their own mothers if it means they could gain an inch of power or a penny in profit. He will obviously politicize everything – he will do ANYTHING to win.

The only good Republican is a dead one.

  3. Mikey says

Woah, let’s rein in the crazy there, Icebloo.

I agree with Ted that what happened was a fiasco, but I would hate for this one thing – however terrible it may be – to be the noose for Obama’s campaign.

  4. Caliban says

@Ted Baldwin, Chris Stevens wasn’t gay. That is pure Right-Wing rumor-mongering, as if they give a flying f*ck about the safety of gays.

From Salon: The gay rumors seem to have originated on, the website of Kevin DuJan, who also believes that President Obama is gay. DuJan uses the very, very shaky sourcing of a “Serbian consulate employee [who] identified himself to me as ‘Dino’ and wouldn’t give me any more of a name than that, but told me it was no secret that Chris Stevens was gay and that ‘it was stupid to send him to Libya as the ambassador when he was a known homosexual.’”

It’s a rumor built on a rumor. First they claim that Chris Stevens was gay, despite the fact that his family and associates who have known him for years say that isn’t true. THEN the Right blames Obama for irresponsibly sending man they (apparently incorrectly) CLAIM was gay to a very homophobic country, despite the fact the Right has never ONCE expressed an iota of concern for the safety of gay men in this country or anywhere else in the world.

    How very f*cking convenient.

Now you may have a point about the security and who was responsible for it, but don’t let a Right Wing lie influence that valid discussion.
