Log Cabin Republicans: No Deal on ENDA for Romney Endorsement

Rclarke_cooperResponding to reports of a back room deal with Romney that he would support ENDA in exchange for the endorsement of the gay Republican group, Log Cabin Republican executive director R. Clarke Cooper tells Buzzfeed that there is no such deal:

Cooper acknowledged that he "discussed legislative vehicles and executive actions with Romney regarding workplace non-discrimination, including ENDA." But he insisted the endorsement did not come in response to a Romney campaign pledge to sign ENDA — noting, "I did not say Romney would sign the current form of ENDA."

He added that Log Cabin is "confident we could work with a President Romney and his administration to achieve desirable tangible outcomes on workplace nondiscrimination."

  1. R. Clarke Cooper may just be the worst lobbyist in history if this is true. Who endorses a candidate after meeting with him and securing absolutely no considerations? Politics is dirty business, and this guy should probably stick to his usual routine of tweeting nonsense about liberal bias.

  2. You're never going to get your father's approval, Clarke.

  3. How will the LCR's be feeling when whatever gains that have been made during Obama's term are eliminated, that's the promise that has been made.

  4. Rmoney doesn't even have the vaguest concept that same sex couples can possibly even BE families. He lacks the personal insight or compassion necessary to look outside of his own greed. He will not endorse ANYTHING positive for gay rights if elected (god forbid!) and will work diligently to take apart what little has been accomplished thus far.

  5. Please, mainstream journalists, please please please follow up with Romney and ask him where he actually stands on ENDA.

This is a gay wedge issue that works against the Republicans. ENDA is very popular among the general public, but not with Romney's nutjob base.

  6. C'mon, boys and girls, are we REALLY surprised? After all, we're talking about out-of-the-closet Rethuggists. Yes, "gay" Rethuggists who, like their GOPoofters counterparts, hate themselves so much they support both a presidential candidate AND a party that hate them as much as the far rightwing anti-gay, ant-Obama extremist bigots.

  7. yo dudes .

We are getting distracted here by the noise.
Obama must win....there is no alternative universe for us.

I don't give a rat's a$$ what Romney endorses or shoves up his hole; he must be defeated at all costs.
    That's it.....otherwise it's Goodnight Vienna !!!!!!

  9. Wow. Clarke Cooper is an idiot.

  10. It's the same as the republican base voting for the incompetence that caused 9-11, and the corruption that wasted billions on the Irag war, and the policies that crashed the economy.
As my cousin-in-law says, Americans are cattle.

  11. OF COURSE Romney didn't promise to end ENDA, and OF COURSE these worthless LCR dudes didn't successfully lobby for it. I have zero respect for these selfish SOBs who would sell their own community down the river... And even their country... For the all mighty dollar.

  12. Well that's what Romney told ME.

  13. "we were promised we'd be spared if we'd help lead the others into the ovens", Clarke said.

    and Drew, you're spot-on.

  14. Of course there's no deal, just like Madonna isn't going to make any deals with a fan to get his/her approval or endorsement.

The GOP does NOT CARE about those log cabin idiots, has NOTHING to gain from their endorsement, and honestly, would probably prefer for the group to not exist anyway.

  15. It's not at all like black people voting for slavery. Saying things like that simply diminishes how horrific slavery was. Maybe it makes you feel good to say outlandish things like that, but it doesn't contribute to any meaningful dialogue on any issues.

Last I checked gays who support Romney still are citizens of this country. Slaves were property, and even free blacks could never become citizens under the Constituition until it was amended in 1868. Supporting Romney is nothing like supporting slavery.

There are so very many ways to criticize gay Republicans. But comparing Republican support to slavery is not one of them.
