Man Burns Down Buckingham Palace: VIDEO

From the "everybody needs a hobby department" comes this clip of 63-year-old Edward Heath talking about and then torching the 96 ft wide scale model of Buckingham Palace that he spent five months building. Thousands gathered to watch it burn over the weekend.

Heath says there is no political motive behind his pyromania. He just likes bonfires.

  1. Odd. Seems like it would earn more money for his charity if he gave little tours of it for a few quid. Burning it down seems like such a waste after all that work.

  2. Not that odd. It was for Bonfire Night afterall. Better than burning a Catholic effigy which is traditionally done.

  3. Being a bit of a closet pyromaniac myself, I kinda loved that.

  4. "Better than burning a Catholic effigy?" - not at all.

  5. Turnabout is fair play... the British burned down the *real* White House in 1814, after all.

  7. Yeah, the guy is still a boy at heart. I remember painstakingly building model planes, then blowing them up with firecrackers and cherry bombs. Still, it would have been nice if he had donated the thing to some charity and they could made some needed cash from it.

  8. Hope they gave out long sticks, so that people could roast Qweenies (Queen Elizabeth-shaped hot dogs) and Marshmonarchs (marshmallows that look like the Kings and Queens.)

  10. Seems curious that the police in Canterbury arrested a teenager for posting a picture of a burning poppy. Yet burning a model of the Palace is OK. I'm sure the kid's defender will bring that up in court. I hope the kid has Rumpole defending him.
