Mitt Romney Rejoins Board of Directors of Marriott

Mitt Romney has his first post-election gig, Reuters reports:

Gas_romneyJ.W. Marriott, Jr., the company's executive chairman, said, "We are delighted that Gov. Romney has agreed to rejoin our board, on which he has served with distinction twice before.  We will benefit from his tremendous energy and capability to guide long-term success in an increasingly complex business environment.  We look forward to working closely with him again as a member of our strong, talented and diverse board."

Arne Sorenson, Marriott's president and chief executive officer, said, "Gov. Romney has proven to be an astute, independent director who is fluent in the demands and opportunities of our highly competitive industry.  We are fortunate to have him back on our board."

Romney, who has served on the Marriott International board twice before, starts immediately.

  2. Tomorrow's headline: Board at Marriott dismissed by Romney. "We no longer need a board now that Marriott is a Motel Nine company." Mitt makes $250 million on sale.

  3. So say goodbye to benefits and anything beyond minimum wage.....

  4. Yes, Butch, this is bad news indeed for Marriott employees. At least it only impacts one company rather than the entire nation.

  5. So Marriott is going to close all of their hotels and move them overseas?

  11. Does this mean Marriott will have to quit its gay-friendly ad campaigns?

    Posted by: Damien | Dec 3, 2012 4:54:16 PM

  12. I'm assuming Marriot do not offer any kind of benefits to gay employees. What a terrible, sad country this is when someone almost voted President can be so hateful and vile.

  15. Read the interviews with streetwalking whore Bill Marriot, who welcomes back streetwalking whore Mitt Romney. (google "marriot gay")
The thing is that they want Gay employees and they want Gay customers BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FOR BUSINESS, but they are totally NOT interested in changing the positions of the Lotsa Damned Saints church.
Just as they sell liquor to make money, 10% or more of which goes to the accursed church empire, they invite Gay folks to sell themselves out by vacationing and spending.

  16. Fox news has no vacancy? They have a track record of hiring failed GOP presidential candidates. I heard Sarah Palin was fired, he may have a chance.

  17. Wow, one day he's running for President,t he next he's on the board of a crappy hotel chain ?

America, like the previous election with McCain running, it looks like we dodged another bullet...

  20. Here's hoping HRC will underline the glaring holes in their attempts to pocket gay dollars.

  21. His labor-eliminating automated voice recognition concierge idea is really going to be popular with the guests. "Say or enter the code number of your request item from the concierge menu. If you do not find the menu in your nightstand under a complementary copy of the Book of Mormon, then select channel 411 on your television. The entire list of items repeats every 27 minutes."

Housekeeping will be replaced by Roombas, so don't ask for extra towels.

  22. That parasite will run them into bankruptcy just like he has done everything else he touched. Good. They deserve it. I feel bad for their employees though.

  23. Iceboo's assumption is incorrect. The Marriott does offer Domestic Partners Benefits to LGBT folks and has earned a 100% rating from the HRC. The Marriott is also highly recommended by other LGBT groups and gets great reviews from LGBT travelers and its LGBT employees. Some say that is beside the point. The Marriott family which owns 30% of the shares are Mormons and donate to that anti-LGBT church. Given that logic LGBT folks would have to boycott every establishment owned by church going Catholics and Fundamentalists Protestants regardless of the individuals behavior and treatment of LGBT folks.

  24. Guess what? Obama won. So what is this fascination with the post-election Mitt Romney? From unflattering pictures of Romney at Disneyland to articles about how “sad and rudderless” Romney is after the election, the stories about how Romney is dealing with losing will not end. Perhaps progressives should spend more time moving Obama to the left than performing yet another victory dance over the 2012 election results. It is a fact that Obama has one of the worst records on civil liberties than any modern president. He expanded the war in Afghanistan, failed to close Gitmo, expanded the surveillance state, and used drone warfare in a way that would make George Bush salivate. So don’t take my word for it: have a look at the columns and interviews given by Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Jonathan Turley, as well as statements by the ACLU.

There is no question that Romney would have been a disaster. But the left in this country should remove its collective head from the sand and take up positions that truly reflect the values and principles that progressives fought for when Bush was in office.
