UK Bishop Compares 'Inhuman' Gay Rights To Nazism In X-Mas Sermon

And you thought Pope Benedict's Christmas address saying marriage equality "offends human truth" was repulsive. Well, his holiness has nothing on British Catholic Bishop Mark Davies.

The Daily Mail reports The Bishop of Shrewsbury is using his Christmas sermon later today to argue "that both Hitler and Stalin challenged Christianity with the notion that what they were doing was 'progress.'"

DaviesAn excerpt from the senior Catholic official's planned remarks, via the Daily Mail:

Past generations have gathered in this cathedral on Christmas night amid many shadows which seemed to obscure the future for them.

We think of the ideologies of the past century, Communism and Nazism, which in living memory threatened to shape and distort the whole future of humanity.

These inhuman ideologies would each challenge in the name of progress the received Christian understanding of the sanctity of human life and the family. Winston Churchill, Britain’s wartime Prime Minister, a man without clear, religious belief, saw in this deadly struggle nothing less than the defence of Christian civilization.

Davies also plans to hammer Prime Minister David Cameron for his pro-equality push. "The Prime Minister has decided without mandate, without any serious consideration, to redefine the identity of marriage itself, the foundation of the family for all generations to come," he will reportedly say.

Ruth Hunt from the LGBT group Stonewall described Davies's forthcoming comments as "offensive," which is an understatement. "Gay people are all too aware of the horrific results of Nazi ideology due to the countless casualties of the Holocaust," she said. "Bishop Davies’s comments are both deeply offensive to gay people and their families." And human decency.

  1. I'll take "Britons who failed WWII History" for 400, Alex.

Hey, Bishop - were it not for the bravery and talent of a particular gay Briton, amongst countless others from other countries, you'd likely be raping children whilst speaking German today.

or maybe you don't mind that idea....

  3. We have these church leaders demeaning love - comparing it to mass murder. Of course Benedict, when he was just Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, claimed in a document that the sexual relationships of gay people are not loving relationships (as if he were an authority on the matter). So I guess first they deny that love is love, then they liken it to mass murder. And Ratzinger - the ex Nazi youth - wrote that when people call for the legalization of same sex love or relationships, no one, not even the Church, should be surprised when people react violently against them. Not only are their statements and arguments screwed up. They are perverse and hideous and revolting.

  4. It amazes me that anyone takes the Catholic church seriously.

  5. The Church got along great with Mussolini and Hitler - they even negotiated and got their own country.

Not such a good idea for a Catholic bishop to talk about Nazis

  6. So I'm guessing he didn't end with, "May your Yuletides be Gay!"

  8. Please refrain from any more close-ups on perverted and twisted pedophiles. They give me the creeps.

On a less serious note, one has to start wondering why the "catholic church" is so against gay rights. Haven't we learned through history that when said church takes up extreme behavior, such as the Inquisition, it is because there is a mightier objective to its disturbed, murderous and maniacal behavior?

What is the "catholic church" hiding? What should we be looking into in order to reveal most possibly yet another atrocity this hateful, unmerciful and relentlessly vicious organization is trying to cover up?

  9. The existence of loving, self-valuing GLBT folks is a direct threat to Catholic teaching on the family. It's almost like they regard us as a rival mafia--they're out to get us because (by breathing) we encroach on their mind-twisting, $$ making machine.

It needs to be said over and over: grown men in frocks who (outwardly) declare they are celibate and who protect child predators have no moral standing and no concept of committed human relationships. They grow violent because the western world refuses to have its intelligence mocked by Rome and its minions.

  11. Bishop, come talk to me when your church has confessed publicly about the damage it's done, first to the children in your church's care, then to the children who were denied loving homes because of your homophobia, then to the children who were deeply destroyed because of your homophobia when all they wanted was acceptance. After your confession and repentence, first before God and then your fellow mortals, then and only then am I willing to entertain a word you say. Now you are a Godless sinner. Confession heals the soul, and makes you worthy once again before God. You know that. Yet you continue in sin. I am deeply ashamed of you as a fellow Christian.

  12. Is this the case of the Pot Calling The Kettle Black? Weren't the Catholics in league to some degree with the Nazis while said Nazis were putting gays in concentration camps or killing them? Realigning history to further personal bigotry under the skirts of religion proves what a Satanist you really are, "Bishop".

  13. The church is slowly dying. People are on to them now. It's amazing how many people are favoring the concept of Yule and Winter Solstice over Christmas.

The Catholic church offers nothing but indoctrination. Some people feel incredibly comfortable not having any of their own thoughts and want to be told what to think and how.

I wish some world politician - Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, Michael Higgins (President of Ireland) - would simply call the church on all of its negativism and hate. I thought churches were supposed to be compassionate and loving.

Churches are nothing more than political entities - priests and bishops are church politicians trying to keep donations (like taxes - Mormons want 10%) coming in to save the priests and bishops from getting real jobs.

  17. @Kiwi,
You've made the right argument. Now if only our leaders would do the same.
But I forget. Gay leadership is chosen for their looks and bods, not for anything vulgar like brains or competence.

  23. "gay leadership is chosen by looks?"

Uh....actually, it's almost always done by default. So few have the guts to put themselves out there that those who do end up being criticized, for no logical reason, for being a visible presence.

If you think you'd be a great leader, raise your voice and visibility and become said Leader, starting on a small local level.

  24. the catholic church created the hate of Jews that ultimaltely led to the holocaust by a man who was born and brought up catholic

Gays were also sent to the death camps - about 50000 of them

Hitler, Mengele, Eichmann Himmler (#2) and Goebbels were catholic and brought up as such

And the german pope in 2009 did the unthinkable -
