When it snows a little in England things start to get interesting.

  1. My dad still lives in a hilly part of Tacoma, WA where if the snow is heavy, you're going to have some serious issues getting around (especially before he got the 4-by-4). At least a couple times back in the 80's and 90's, my mom strapped on cross-country skis and a backpack and headed up to the local shopping center about a mile away for groceries, etc. Hey, if you're resourceful and determined, you make it work!

  2. If I'm seeing that right the skier is being towed by a car. It's known as skitching (ski hitching) and if you live in an area where it snows heavily you did it for the first time at about age 6.

  3. Why doesn't he just get into the car?

  5. The buses were cancelled with THAT little amount of snow? Boy, they really aren't prepared for snow in the UK! Also, I think what he's doing in the video would be illegal, at least here it is here in Nova Scotia.

  6. Oh, please. Growing up in rural Wisconsin in the 80s, we skied to school all the time. What's a little bit of snow to a kid of Norwegian descent? Nothing to get worried about, and certainly nothing to prevent you from getting to school on time.

  7. Not sure what the buses have to do with this, but I was also wondering why he didn't ride in the car, unless it was full and no seats were available. Then again, he wouldn't be racking up with views in youtube... Fun video and dig the song.

  9. I gotta laugh. THAT IS NOT A LOT OF SNOW. We got more than that in Boston [the city, not just outlying suburbs] this past week, and we didn't shut down anything, in fact the streets and most sidewalks were all cleared very well by mid-day.

But southern England especially, and the south of Ireland, etc., don't get heavy snow fall, so society semi-collapse when they get a few inches. Same thing here in the U.S. in the south especially, from about D.C. southward. D.C. still can't handle a few inches of snow. I'll say this about up here in the north: we handle bad weather like intense cold, heavy snow/sleet, rain, etc., really well compared to some other parts of the country, contrary to some attitudes especially in the south, we aren't quite the p*ssies popularly thought of as being. Even with a foot of snow Boston for example generally goes on as usual, the schools will probably be closed for a day, that's all.

  10. @KEN That is exactly what I was thinking. I genuinely do not want to rain on this parade. I want to be able to enjoy the video but why didn't he just get in the car?

Why didn't he just title the video "fun skiing behind a car"? I would have enjoyed this more. Why do we have to know he's doing it to get the library because buses are down when we all know he could've just hopped in the car? Not to mention the ending... it doesn't even look like he's really going to go in to the library. He heads back to the camera which is in the car.

    This video is a fail.
