Rick Santorum: Gay Inclusion Will 'Murder' the Boy Scouts

Rick Santorum says allowing gay scouts and leaders into the organization will destroy it.

Splat_santorum"Wednesday’s vote is a challenge to the Scouts’ very nature and is another example of the left attempting to remove God from all areas of public life," warns Rick Santorum in a World Net Daily column on plans this week by the Boy Scouts to drop its ban on gay scouts and scout leaders.

He adds:

"Scouting prepares boys and teenagers to be virtuous men in a world that desperately needs men who are brave enough to stand up for those principles, to live by the moral code of the Scout Oath and Law and hold themselves to that standard – whether at the schoolyard or in the boardroom. Scouting may not survive this transformation of American society, but for the sake of the average boy in America, I hope the board of the Scouts doesn’t have its fingerprints on the murder weapon."

The Boy Scouts this morning were set to receive more than 1.4 million petitions calling for an end to the ban.

Today, the Family Research Council and other hate groups took out a full-page ad in USA Today urging the BSA to retain its anti-gay policies.

President Obama weighed in during a 60 Minutes interview that ran before the Super Bowl, saying that the Boy Scouts should allow gays to join its organization . Said Obama: "My attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does, in every institution and walk of life."

  1. Santorum should be taken out and hung, for the cold-blooded murder of the English tongue.

(With apologies to Lerner and Lowe for paraphrasing one of Henry Higgin's lines, this one not in the original George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalion.)

  3. Senator Santorum should be more concerned with how heterosexuals raise their sons than with any influence gay men could have over children. Too many straight people end up raising sons who want to extend their adolescence into their 30s (or even 40's) and end up being poor marriage material later on - leading to a high rate of divorces and never-married men. This contributes to the single-mother population and also the "single-mom-by-choice" population as more women decide men aren't even worth a try as husbands. It is THIS problem, and not anything gay men do that contributes to the "murder" of the traditional family.

Some conservatives will do anything rather than tell Middle America to get its act togther. Any gay man who has been with the same partner for years and raised a child with him (think Dan Savage here) exhibits more valuable masculinity than most of these overgrown-teenager men, a lot of whom are right-wing politically.

  5. Hmmm, I'm confused... The Girl Scouts are already gay-inclusive, and that organisation still exists. So why would the Boy Scouts doing the same thing destroy it?

  6. And gay men have no interest in younger boys? Witness Justin Bieber, Zack Efron and Dave Franco fawned over on this site. HYPOCRITES.

  7. Edward, all three of the people you mentioned are men currently of legal age of consent. They are not boys.

  10. When you think of Rick Santorum always keep the number 700,000 in mind. That is how many votes he was defeated by in his last race for the U.S.Senate.

  11. Repent Santorum, repent your evil mind numbing bigoted ways.

  12. His very presence on WND cements Santorum's irrelevance.

May he slide ever further into the mire of obscurity.

  13. Why is he being featured here? We already know beyond a doubt that he is stupid and irrelevant.

  14. The Republicans still refuse to accept what happened in November and unfortunately so do the Democrats.

The GOP lost because Santorum and Romney somehow got to be favorites. Two sides of the same stupid coin; a fundie-Catholic side and a Mormon side. The GOP could have won the election by sticking to their guns on Immigration and Second Amendment and dropping abortion and gay bashing.

Obama won a squeaker because Romney was unacceptable and America needs health care reform. His positions on immigration and Second Amendment will cost the Democrats the Senate.

  15. Mr. Sanorum: You are as stupid as you are ignorant. The Boy Scouts have had Gays in it since it was founded. When I was a Scout in the 1930's, I was in the Gay Patrol of the Troop. We had Three Straight Patrols. Get with it; You are a Bigot.

  16. @OctoberCountry: Yes, as are 4-H, Campfire and others who filed amici briefs the last time SCOTUS ruled on BSA. So is BS Canada.
