ESPN Sportscaster Chris Broussard Says Jason Collins is 'Living in Unrepentant Sin' - VIDEO

Broussard

ESPN sportscaster Chris Broussard had a few things to say about NBA player Jason Collins, who became the first out gay male player in pro sports today, Think Progress reports.

Said Broussard in a segment with gay ESPN colleague LZ Granderson:

Personally, I don’t believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly, like premarital sex between heterosexuals. If you’re openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits. It says that, you know, that’s a sin. If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, whatever it maybe, I believe that’s walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. So I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I don’t think the bible would characterize them as a Christian.

  1. Bible says you know them by their fruits.
Well we know Christians are full of hate.

  2. And we care what this idiot thinks because....?

  3. And thank gawd that all the straight male athletes lead pure, chaste Christ centered lives. No idolatry or false gods. No sex for purposes other than procreation. No gluttony of drink, drugs or cash. No lies, no cheating, no defiling or defacing their bodies.

Oh right- that would leave only Tim Tebow. Who doesn't even have a contract anymore.

  4. Let the Games begin!

It will be good for the advancement of gay rights that the sports media will now become involved in this debate. As more sports fans start seeing idiots like Broussard fomenting against gay people, more sports fans will become reject that type of nonsense. And other athletes, as well as enlightened sportscasters, will speak out for gay rights.

Brossard is like the old Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp who just couldn't accept African-American basketball players, like much of the country (especially the South) in the 1960's. It led to a good, strong public debate in the sports media ...... and that helped America change.

  6. And we all know that Chris must be an expert when it comes to SIN.

  7. seriously, though - didn't he actually just condemn ALL non-Christians, not just gays?

  8. Chris Broussard looks like "Jafar", the bad guy from the Disney movie "Aladdin". Somehow appropriate, wouldn't you think?

  9. Who asked for a Christian viewpoint? These people need to stop quoting fairy tales to excuse their bigotry.

  10. @Brian: He was expressing an opinion that you cannot live an openly homosexual lifestyle, engage in premarital sex, etc., and claim to be a Christian. The problem (in figuring out what he meant) was that he put a lot of rambling in between, so you had to think a bit to figure out what he was trying to say.

While I'm sure a number of readers would want Chris Broussard fired for the beliefs he expressed, you could instead justify firing him for not being able to form coherent English sentences. As a hint to Mr Broussard, he would be well advised to not say anything unless he is reading it from a teleprompter.

  11. But living a closeted "gay, lifestyle" is apparently ok. Christians are such douchebags...

  12. I would not judge Disney if it took away the soapbox Mr. Broussard is using and then fired his ass. No one should be allowed to grandstand against anyone like he did. I thought it was bad when Bruce Feldman said Northern Illinois University didn't deserve to go to the Orange Bowl despite the rules dictated that they played well enough to go, but this is much worse!

  13. "...you could instead justify firing him for not being able to form coherent English sentences."

Actually, Bill, Broussard graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio--a very prestigious liberal arts college. Maybe the subject matter (and his stupid views) made him stumble verbally, but he must be able to put coherent sentences together. You can't graduate from Oberlin not being able to read, write and speak. He's a bigot, but he's not illiterate.

  14. Um, I wasn't aware that saying you're gay meant that you're openly just having sex with everyone. I'm pretty sure that sexuality and sexual behavior are two different things. Jacka*s.

  15. What the f#ck year is it that a SPORTSCASTER--not a religious authority--can get a national platform to say truly vile ugliness like this. No wonder we can't get sports figures to come out.

    Disgusting and disappointing.

  16. This is what happens when you have mixing of the races--you get some miscegenated anal froth stain mixing with Caucasian DNA, and creating mutant subnormals like Broussard.

  17. For God's sake, IT IS NOT A LIFE STYLE. It is a life. Hey, Broussard, how's the straight life style working for you this week? How the hell does your Christianity inform your straight life style? When are you going to peel the scales of your straight life style eyes?

  18. Silly me. I didn't realize that we're now taking theological education from ESPN sportscasters with barely enough wit to spell their own names. Nope. Not me. This clown has no qualifications to speak for God. Shut up, fool. Reading scoreboards is the only thing you're good at.

  19. Jesus's mother Mary obviously engaged in premarital sex. If he is right, that was a sin too.

  20. I just sent an email to ESPN demanding his
dismissal. I'm sure my demand and $29.99
will get me a subscription to ESPN Magazine.
But maybe we all should let ESPN know our
    dissatisfaction.

  21. Hope he has his resume prepared. It's time for sport commentators to remember they are not the mouthpieces of the corporations they work for. Their personal opinions need to stay person if they wish to stay employed.
    WELCOME to the new reality

  22. where all his comments about all the illegitimate kids or drug use or drinking by these same nba players. are those great christians . espn pays him to talk basketball not religion if he wants a show on religion let him call pat robertson. espn should fire his ass.

  23. So, who says a professional, popular figure of any kind, sports, politics, business, entertainment, must be christian by any definition, let alone the narrow, fundamentalist, bible-thumping kind? Mr. Broussard can have his opinion, but I fail to see why his opinion should be news.

  24. This didn't take long! Of course, he equally condemns all sin, like adultery, greed, lust, gluttony, etc.

  25. You know, I just went back and read Jason Collins words about Boston Pride and noticed how well put they were...well-spoken and elucidated. Compared to him, Chris Boussard sounds like a troglodyte: uneducated, unwordly, and unChristian. Stick to being under a rock or work on your communication skills, Mr. Communications.
