Ronald Reagan's Son Demands Churches Fight Back Against Gay Marriage: 'Where's the Moral Outrage?'

Michael Reagan, the former President's son, is upset about the recent shift in support for marriage equality:

ReaganFox TV, Rush Limbaugh and other talk-show pundits have weighed in, arguing the conservative — and moral — position that sanctifying gay marriage with the grace of the U.S. Constitution is not only wrong but a serious threat to the culture of this country.

But those media outlets often speak to those who are already in the choir. That leaves a lot of other Americans who aren’t hearing anyone preaching the conservative argument on gay marriage.

I don’t expect the GOP to provide any leadership. Republicans are too busy cat-fighting with each other and making sure their presidential choice will be whooped by Hillary Clinton in 2016.

And where in the heck are the churches on the issue of legalizing gay marriage?

Where are the Protestants, Jews and Catholics? Have they lost their tongues? Their hearts and wills? Their institutional you-know-whats?

Where’s the moral outrage? Why aren’t thousands of our pastors, priests and rabbis shouting from their pulpits? Why aren’t they leading their congregations through the streets in mass protest?

  1. of the 4 reagan children, michael is, by far, the most reactionary.

maureen, while republican, was pretty tolerant as far as social issues went (she was rumored to be lesbian too, but i cannot confirm it) and probably would have been ok with marriage equality. ron and patty are both pretty liberal and imagine that their opinions lie more on the side of equality as well.

  3. Is this a late April Fool's joke? Reagan's article is published in the Ironton Tribune, a paper with a circulation of 6,000, which is over 50% of the entire population of Ironton, Ohio. Mr. Reagan's email address is: Reagan@caglecartoons.com. His article isn't as important as "Jail time given in dog case", an important news item about a woman abandoning her puppy. Personally, I think Andy should have published the puppy story.

  4. Michael was adopted because Jane Wyman's pussy was out of business -- I think they looked for a kid who was dropped on his head, and found him

  5. He is the son of Reagan's first wife, Jane Wyman. Where is the outrage? Why didn't Michael scream and shout when his parents tore asunder their sacred marriage vows?

  9. Has Michael been living under a rock? While Limbaugh and ORielly may have acknowledged that the Conservatives have lost the battle against same sex civil marriage (because their only arguement was based on religion)the Catholic Church, the Mormons and the Southern Baptists are still vocal opponents agsinst all things gay. The Reagans would probably not be the poster children for sanctity of marriage anyway.

  11. @Rick-
    Easy solution...Don't visit California then!
Especially don't visit San Francisco since you obviously hate immigrants and diversity so much.
Since it's one of the most visited cities/states in the world you won't be missed! :)

  12. Michael was a loser and a nobody until he became a conservative controversy salesman. Now he makes a living on the backs of others, just like his (non-biological) daddy.

  13. I love this statement:

"I don’t expect the GOP to provide any leadership. Republicans are too busy cat-fighting with each other and making sure their presidential choice will be whooped by Hillary Clinton in 2016."

LOL. It's funny 'cause it's true!

  19. MIchael Reagan claims he was molested as a kid; that probably helped warp his ideas about healthy, normal sexuality. Still a prick, though. (Reagan's AG, Ed Meese, has also weighed in with the anti-gay-marriage crowd, so a lot of those 80's leftovers seems to be trying to wheeze out one last feeble roar against history's tide.)

    Minding their own business perchance?

Marriage Equality affects not a single religion a jot or a tittle. Catholic churches would be no more required to perform same-sex weddings than they are to perform Jewish or Muslim weddings.

  22. In spite of what he says, even Rush Limbaugh knows that those against marriage equality have lost.

  24. Reagan was, at his best, a horrible embarrassment, and at his worst an outrage to be damned beyond time. Anything his spawn can do to redeem his legacy is welcome.

  25. Michael:
I must say I'm disappointed in you. Whatever your morally outraged church teaches within its own four walls is fine with me. You and the other parishioners need to keep it within the four walls, however. That's the essence of the concept of separation of church and state--a civics lesson that was evidently lost on you. And it's fine by me if your 'pastor' doesn't want to marry folks like me..I wouldn't want him to, either. So SHUT TF UP already!!
