ABC's Proof of Obama's Benghazi 'Cover-Up' Based on Fabricated Email

CNN's Jake Tapper reports:

BenghaziCNN has obtained an e-mail sent by a top aide to President Barack Obama about White House reaction to the deadly attack last September 11 on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, that apparently differs from how sources characterized it to two different media organizations.

The actual e-mail from then-Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes appears to show that whomever leaked it did so in a way that made it appear that the White House was primarily concerned with the State Department's desire to remove references and warnings about specific terrorist groups so as to not bring criticism to the department.

Rhodes, White House communications director Jennifer Palmieri, and White House press secretary Jay Carney, could not be reached for comment.

Adds DailyKos:

[ABC News reporter] Karl got burned, plain and simple. He was the stenographer for a someone pushing a political attack against the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton.

  1. It will be interesting to see how ABC handles this on-air; since most of America understands the whole controversy is manufactured outrage w/ political partisan agenda... BEFORE this regardless.

  2. Yeah, and "most of America understands" using the IRS as a politically partisan weapon to further your agenda. In fact, it's grounds for impeachment. Or haven't you been watching the news lately.

  3. I'd like to see Jake Tapper go down, and not in the sexy way.

  4. Jake Tapper isn't the one in trouble here, though-- it's ABC's Jon Karl who seriously mis-reported. It'll be interesting to see if he keeps his job, since a similar scandal brought down somebody as big as Dan Rather.

  5. Mike:
    1. The IRS was managed by a BUSH appointee when this took place.

    2. The IRS does not answer to the President. It answers to the General Accounting Office which answers to CONGRESS.

    3. At that time, incumbent Republicans were deathly afraid of tea party primary challenges ON THE LOCAL LEVEL. They had far more to gain from dark and grey money being screened out.

    4. No tea party organization was refused non profit status, they just had to complete the application.

  6. "4. No tea party organization was refused non profit status, they just had to complete the application."

LOL. What books do you read? Could you provide a copy of your Facebook page and all messages contained within? Could you provide a copy of all your member's Facebook pages and all messages contained within?

"complete the application" like that? You think the public is stupid? Obama's half-brother in Kenya it is being reported today had his "charity" declared tax-free in THIRTY DAYS. Some of these Conservative groups have been in limbo THREE YEARS. How blind are you, even Jon Stewart knows this stinks to high heaven.

  7. Oh, and just wait until the "low level IRS employees" start to sing when they realize they wish they would just be fired, but are looking at prison terms.

  8. Is the IRS doing audits of conservative groups only? Doesn't matter. They can audit whomever they wish. It might be seedy to do that just to conservative groups, but not illegal. Maybe I haven't been following the story closely enough, but unless there is some kind of blackmailing going on, no one is doing anything illegal.

  9. "...What books do you read? Could you provide a copy of your Facebook page and all messages contained within? Could you provide a copy of all your member's Facebook pages and all messages contained within?..."

LOL. Absence of Evidence is not indicative of a Crime, Moron. In fact, it's the exact opposite.

Now go back to chewing your Coco-pebbles, you lying pece of Republican Manure.

  10. No, the IRS is part of the Treasury Dept and in direct line of authority to the President. The IRS had two different commissioners over the course of when the events allegedly took place. The second commissioner was appointed by Obama. The White House staff is barred by law from requesting tax records on individual, but can request aggregate summaries. The audits weren't fishing expeditions to find improperly filled out forms, but requests for additional information that would stymie and intimidate the groups in question. There would be no need for any information to go to the White House. Of course, the multiple investigations into the matter will probably reveal a muddling mix of evidence and no clarity at all after a few years.

  11. What the IRS did was absolutely wrong, and those that planned and executed this as well as their direct superiors need to be fired. Until there is direct evidence showing White House involvment, I (unlike Mike) believe President Obama is innocent until PROVEN guilty.

  12. I had it explained to me that the actions of this one ROGUE IRS office were not illegal, but against IRS policies and procedures. I appreciate the effort of the over zealous IRS employees, but they'll be fired--and perhaps a high level employee.

Many of us have been wanting to the IRS to go after the religious and right-wing nuts for years.

Oh, and if conservative IRS employees had done this to Liberal groups would I be yelling, "Off with their heads"? Yep.

  13. Ooops, I thought "rogue" just meant acting alone. I didn't know it also means unscrupulous or vicious. I would never describe these dedicated liberal IRS employees like that. Never.

  14. Jon King got to keep his job at CNN somehow after completely mucking up the Boston Marathon reporting.

Ethics in journalism and news casting is long gone. You will hear an inept apology and people will move on.

  15. The IRS is mandated by law to investigate the activities of organizations that apply for tax exempt status. None of the tea-party organization should have have tax-exempt status. THEY ARE POLITICAL!!!!!
