Illinois House Adjourns Without Voting on Marriage Equality and One Day Left in Session

Illinois lawmakers adjourned on Thursday evening without consideration of SB10, the marriage equality bill.

The Illinois House session begins at 9:30 am on Friday. It is the last day of the session.

LGBT advocates urged supporters of marriage equality to call House Speaker Madigan to call the vote at (773) 581-8000.

There is a rally at 11am tomorrow at the State House in Springfield. If you're in Chicago, meet at the Equality Illinois office at 3318 N Halsted Street at 7:30am for FREE BUSES to Springfield.

  1. I can't get an answer at either the Chicago or Springfield office lines (including the number listed above).

  2. Last day rally ... WTF
Should have been rallying since Senate passage in Feb.

There was NO intention to bring SB10 to the floor today. Not a single mention by anyone on the floor or sponsor or call for news coverage. Nor tomorrow either for that matter.

Without a doubt this is showing itself as the lowest quality push for LGBT legislation in the country so far.

Illinois Dems should be ashamed of themselves.

  3. This is what happened with civil unions there too. Passed the very last day. This is why Illinois politicians are infamous.

  4. Who in the hell is running LGBT organizations in Illinois? The antigay side was rallying January through spring. The progay side thinks a last minute rally on last day of the session is gonna make up for all their lack of activism and effort this year? Some heads should roll.

  5. Who's got the knife at their back to vote for this? The Chicago suburbs may not consider gays "Ordinary People."

  6. Chicago gays are more interested in Mr Leather than in gay marriage. After all, you get to see hairy men. Hairy men are far more important than gay rights.

  7. If you think this is bad, wait until you
see what the Supreme Court is up to on
    Prop. 8.
