Bristol Palin Chimes In On 'Duck Dynasty' Controversy

Bristol Palin

True to form for the Palin family, Bristol's comments are light on substance and heavy on hypocrisy. Said the younger Palin of the backlash to Phil Robertson:

[I]f you don’t agree with their lifestyle, they spread the most hate. It is so hypocritical it makes my stomach turn. They need to learn how to respect others’ opinions and not just jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesn’t support homosexuality and gay marriage is homophobic.

It's hard to fathom any of her strawmen spewing something as hateful as Phil Robertson did in a sermon from a few years ago when he said,

They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil.

She also assumes, wrongly, that all opinions are valid and deserving of respect. Unfounded climate change denial, for example, is not of equal validity to evidence proving climate change to be true. Similarly, opinions baselessly demonizing gays are not of equal validity to those arguing for equality and thus are not entitled to the same level of respect.

Lastly, yes, not supporting homosexuality or gay marriage is homophobic. This is unambiguous. Just as not supporting Judaism is antisemitic and opposing miscegenation is racist, so too is not supporting homosexuality or gay marriage homophobic. Just as one need not be a robe-wearing Klan member to be a racist, neither does one need to be an Uganda-level hater to still be a homophobe.

Bristol's full "thoughts" can be found, AFTER THE JUMP...

Everyone needs to leave Phil Robertson alone for expressing his beliefs. I think it’s so hypocritical how the LGBT community expects every single flippen person to agree with their life style. This flies in the face of what makes America great – people can have their own beliefs and own opinions and their own ways of life.

Everyone needs to treat others like God would, with love.

It goes both ways.

I hate how the LGBT community says it’s all about “love” and “equality.” However, if you don’t agree with their lifestyle, they spread the most hate. It is so hypocritical it makes my stomach turn. They need to learn how to respect others’ opinions and not just jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesn’t support homosexuality and gay marriage is homophobic.

They take the easy way out every time anyone speaks out about their beliefs on the Bible.

If I were Duck Dynasty, I would take my show to another channel.

So much disrespect.

  8. We're supposed to take the advice of someone whose sexual carelessness resulted in an unplanned (i.e. unwanted) pregnancy?

    Uh, no.

  9. oh she’s so wise that everyone takes her advice seriously.
Also, did she retake her sex education class, especially the part about prevention teenage pregnancy ?

  10. According to Levi, Bristol's pregnancy was totally planned. She "loved kids" and so wanted him to father her child. Why she didn't plan on getting married first I don't know. I guess she felt that if her family could support her it didn't matter whether her child had two married parents or if its Daddy was a regular visitor or absent deadbeat. There are some people on the right who think good intentions and right-wing political views compensate for everything else. And all this while they advocate "traditional morality." Talk about hypocrisy that turns the stomach!

  13. @ Bristol Palin Stupid B****!

Everyone needs to leave LGBTs alone for expressing themselves. I think it’s so hypocritical how the anti-gay community expects every single flippen person to agree with their hateful, prejudiced lifestyle. This flies in the face of what makes America great – people can have their own ways of life.

Everyone needs to treat others like God would, with love.

    It goes both ways.

I hate how the anti-gay community says it’s all about “love” and “family.” However, if you don’t agree with their discriminatory, oppressive lifestyle, they spread the most hate. It is so hypocritical it makes my stomach turn. They need to learn how to respect others’ opinions and not just jump to the conclusion that everyone who doesn’t live exactly like they do is an abomination.

Anti-gays take the easy way out every time anyone speaks out about their differences.

    So much disrespect.

  14. Ask Robertson what his take on how society should treat a sexually active unmarried woman based on his Bible teachings. Should that language be passed into law Bristol?

She at the very least had the sense to steer clear of the asinine 'free speech' argument.

  20. Even among conservatives, I seriously doubt that anyone care what Bristol has to say about anything. Most even shun her mother at this point.

  21. I don't see her calling for the reinstatement of Martin Brashir.

  22. And just why are any of the Palins worthy of even one inch of print these days other than they feel that their inhabiting a news cycle has gotten stale? The elder Palin was a half-term governor and the daughter was a reality show has been. Nothing to see here folks. Time to move on.

  24. Well, we were all waiting for Bristol Palin's opinion with bated breath!

The best comment so far is Mary's, "A turkey commenting on a duck."

Having said that, one should give Bristol credit for one thing. For a young woman who is painfully average in every respect, she has extended her Fifteen Minutes of Fame beyond what anyone could have reasonably expected.

The sad thing is that her former boyfriend Levi Johnston, who is fully her intellectual equal, but, in contrast, appears to be a likeable human being, had bad advice and management, and crashed and burned.
