NJ Lieutenant Governor Denies Hoboken, NJ Mayor's Claims That Christie Held Sandy Funds Hostage: VIDEO

Zimmer

In the latest ugly turn of events for the Chris Christie administration, Hoboken, NJ Mayor Dawn Zimmer said over the weekend that Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Richard Constable, Christie’s community affairs commissioner, held relief funds for Hurricane Sandy damage hostage unless Zimmer approved a redevelopment plan being pushed by the governor.

The L.A. Times reports:

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer said she met with federal prosecutors in Newark for several hours Sunday at their request and turned over a journal and other documents.

“I will provide any requested information and testify under oath about the facts of what happened when the Lieutenant Governor came to Hoboken and told me that Sandy aid would be contingent on moving forward with a private development project,” she said in a statement Sunday night.

Zimmer appeared on cable news over the weekend making the claims. Guadagno held a press conference this morning disputing them.

  1. OF COURES she's going to deny it. The proof here whether it's true or not, is if Hoboken gets the Sandy relief funds or not. If they still don't, it's retribution. Either for not approving the deal, or for letting the cat out of the bag.

  3. Funny to watch how desperate Democrats are to de-rail Christie's candidacy.

Fearful that he will beat Hillary (and he will).

  6. IMO he's done as far as the 2016 presidential race is concerned.

The right wing won't vote for him, they feel they gave away the house by supporting marginally middle-of-the-road candidates (they'd say liberal) in McCain and Romney, now they want a tea-bag style candidate.

Doubtful Independents and Dems will favor this guy over Hillary Clinton. And these "scandals" are too easy for the least politically intelligent to understand and they translate easily into 30 second anti-Christi TV spots.

  8. FYI: Mayor Zimmer has publicly supported LGBT rights. She spoke at a marriage equality rally held on the Hoboken riverfront a few years ago, she has issued proclamations for gay pride month and made herself available to perform same sex marriages as soon as permitted by the court ruling.

in answer to the question: Why is this news for TR

  9. Yeah, and Hoboken as been "approved" for 97 million dollars in aid but has only receieved about 300K.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist here to figure out just how full of it Christie is.

  13. I believe the Mayor is telling the truth and the Lt. Govs denial is meaningless. What else is the govs admin going to say? mayor zimmer is very brave and we may be witnessing, once again, how roaches scurry when a light it shown on them and the downfall of gov. christie. i don't watch the fox propaganda channel so i wonder if they have begun a smear campaign against mayor zimmer?

  14. Wrong. Whether or not Hoboken gets funds doesn’t really prove anything. It’s a question about how much funding; they won’t get zero in any case. Also, now that it’s public, they might not make good on their original threat in order to obfuscate the investigation.

  15. I'd stake my life that the LG is lying. Lying. Lying.

Her performance looks exactly like that -- a performance.

I can't wait for the evidence to come out.

They're just hoping there isn't an email trail... but just getting them interviewed by the US ADAs will no doubt eventually catch someone in a lie that can then be unraveled, to keep them from going to jail for obstruction of justice or perjury.

At this point, it's only a matter of time to see who the first to crack is, who steps in it first. Then the whole thing will come tumbling down. Get out the popcorn.

  16. Christie is done as a viable Presidential candidate for one simple reason: money.

His main financial backers were on Wall Street. That's who he was depending on to build his war chest and bankroll a primary campaign. They know him better and are more comfortable with his more "moderate" positions on many things.

They are now going to wait and hedge their bets. They are at the epicenter of the "Bridgegate" coverage and can see that it's turning into an ongoing story. There will be weeks of hearings and testimony.

All that has to happen now is for his Wall Street backers to sit on the side lines for a few months. Their lack of contributions will become a self-fulfilling prophesy. Part of the primary game is who can mount a viable campaign; without a pre-emptive war chest, Christie doesn't stand a chance. And, unlike his Tea Party competitors, he can't count on the conservative PAC's to come to his aid.

So, good bye Christie. I would place my bets on Jeb Bush.

  17. The CC House of Cards crumbling to the ground. I would bet my life on Zimmer & her guts to step up and move this forward. She only stands to lose everything personally and professionally were she lying. Listening to this perfectly worded 'response' from Lt Gov, a classic denial, spoken from a superior perch about this lowly other who dares say such things. The world of Christie is a finely woven web, destined to end up just like it now is. More will follow, GWB & now Zimmer, just the opening salvo. Someone is going to crack from within - someone who feels betrayed by the 'team' and no longer willing to take the fall.
