One Direction's Liam Payne Tweets Support for 'Duck Dynasty' Family Values

One Direction's Liam Payne caused an uproar on Twitter late this afternoon after he tweeted support to Duck Dynasty's Willie Robertson.

DynastySaid Payne: "huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold. big fan"

Payne later tweeted: "Being a fan of someones show and the way they still hold a family together doesnt mean i am ok with all they say."

Reaction to Payne's tweets include one from gay vlogger and major One Direction fanboy Tyler Oakley, who interviewed the band last September.

Tweeted Oakley to Payne: "Wow. Very confused and disappointed by this @Real_Liam_Payne tweet. This literally changes everything..."

  1. Can we finally stop hearing about these talentless hacks now? And the Duck idiots too.

  2. Family values is code for homophobia.

Liam lost a lot of fans today. I don't know if he was meaning to be homophobic but his non-apology, defensive response is actually more offensive in my eyes than his original tweet.

    Without the talent...

  5. Supporting a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, millionaire bigot that has the same family values as Fred Phelps? Wow.

  6. Ugh, the comments are getting ugly towards Oakley on Twitter. What is up with all of the celebrity anti-gay hate these days?

  7. I partly agree with Liam. He's saying that he admires family values. Big deal. He's not condoning bigotry. Stop acting like reactive little gay gits.

I will agree with the poster who said that these pop stars are not people we should be looking up to. I mean, what did they become famous for? Lip-syncing? Using Auto-Tune? Being total puppets of a music label?

We also have to admit that we in the GLBT community have helped to make these pop stars fabulously wealthy. Don't deny it.

  8. "Being a fan of someones show and the way they still hold a family together doesn't mean i am ok with all they say."

So let's hear you denounce his homophobic, racist remarks Liam.

Young, hetero, life by the balls, not a clue about the suffering caused by idiots like Robertson.

Couple words for ya Liam: Nigeria. Uganda.

  9. well will celebrities learn that they are not required to have an opinion on everything? And, even if thoughts happen to rattle around in their heads, they aren't required to publish them in public.

  10. Boy bands have a short shelf life. This one is quickly turning rancid.

  11. What will his gay bandmates say about this?

    Posted by: SoLeftImRight | Jan 18, 2014 7:13:54 PM

  12. Tyler Oakley is a racist, transphobic, sexist so him getting bad comments isn't anything out of the ordinary.

  13. When will male pop stars realize that all people want to see them do is dance around with a visible bulge.

  14. Maybe they have an A&E special coming up.

I'm guessing something like 'Wat?? thanks a lot fu*kwit!'

  16. In the past, Towleroad promoted Liam and One Direction many times through story after story on this blog. That was a stupid thing to do because Liam is showing that he doesn't care about gay people. It's time to shut this blog down. You "journalists" have reported on so many different stories that turned out to be false, a hoax or just greatly exaggerated.

Don't even get me started on the times you've reported on stories 24 to 48 hours after other news sites have.

  17. Millions do look up to these pop stars, whether we like it or not. Liam is seen as the sex symbol of the group. His tweet wouldn't matter if he didn't have the status he does, deservedly or not. And when you're in the public eye and did what Liam did, there will be backlash. It is what it is. I'm sure he knew of Phil Robertson's hate comments and made the tweet anyway. That says a lot.

But I expect many gay/bi guys to defend him because they think he looks good and they have no self-respect whatsoever.

  18. just because Twitter exists, doesn't mean you have to type stuff into it.

    Posted by: anon | Jan 18, 2014 7:30:20 PM

  19. Unless One Direction wants to see a similar 'ratings decline' as Duck Dynasty, they'd do well to oust Payne.

And we'd all do well to put the pressure on making sure that happens. No one is entitled to make millions off of supporting those who would cause the suffering of others.

  20. Liam keep following that one direction outta here.

  21. The main problem is the conservative agenda has basically made the term "family values" = anti gay

    Posted by: Billy | Jan 18, 2014 7:46:22 PM

  22. He's totally the gay one..

    Posted by: wonderer | Jan 18, 2014 7:49:04 PM

  23. He is probably just a young conflicted closeted gay boy trying to hold on to his false heterosexual identity. Closets are for clothes and they twist and destroy people who live in them.

  24. Bu-bow.

    Posted by: Tristram | Jan 18, 2014 8:26:12 PM

  25. Wow. That was stupid.

Liam has a future of hunting and rifle trade shows to look forward to. I don't think there's much call for ex-boy-banders there though.
