Spain's New Cardinal: Homosexuality is a 'Defect' Like High Blood Pressure and Can Be Corrected

Spain's new Cardinal Fernando Sebastian Aguilar, chosen by Pope Francis a week ago, has quickly made it known how he feels about homosexuality, calling it a "defect" which can be corrected, AFP reports:

Aguilar"A lot of people complain and don't tolerate it but with all respect I say that homosexuality is a defective way of manifesting sexuality, because that has a structure and a purpose, which is procreation," Sebastian told Malaga newspaper Sur...

"We have a lot of defects in our bodies. I have high blood pressure. Am I going to get angry because they tell me that? It is a defect I have that I have to correct as far as I can," said Sebastian, who is the archbishop emeritus of the northern city of Pamplona.

"Pointing out a defect to a homosexual is not an offence, it is a help because many cases of homosexuality can be recovered and normalised with adequate treatment. It is not an offence, it is esteem. When someone has a defect, the good friend is the one who tells him."

Aguilar also said that Pope Francis wasn't accepting homosexuality when he said "who am I to judge?"

Said Aguilar: "It is one thing to show welcome and affection to a homosexual person and another to morally justify the exercise of homosexuality."

  1. What a horrible human being. A monster, really. Again, this is what happens when ignorance is given a position of power. humanity was made in the image of God, is his God truly beneficent?

  3. the catholic church is evil.

    religion is evil.

as soon as the marriage issue is settled, it's time to gear up our forces to seriously limit the influence and special privileges enjoyed by religions in the usa.

join a humanist or atheist/agnostic organization today. contribute and participate.

the tide against religion is turning in the industrialized west.

  4. The intellectuals left the church fifty years ago.

Witness the dregs. They wouldn't know a science text book if it hit them in the face.

  5. Been to a Catholic Church in Spain recently?
I have (to look at the architecture) and they are essentially empty save for a few over-70's. He can preach his bigotry all he wants to the empty pews.
Same-sex marriage is legal in Spain...has been since 2005. That won't change.
Cardinal Fernando Sebastian Aguilar will be dead soon. Good riddance!

  6. Believing in magical ceremonies, such as a priest's ability to change bread and wine into meat and blood, is a serious human defect. And it is easily curable--by applying intelligence.

  7. Homosexuality is not a defect. Ignorance is a defect.

  8. Believing in an imaginary friend that created the world around 6k years ago is not only a mental defect but laughable---however one can't laugh at the source of so much misery and genocide over the years.

Is he the emissary that the Holy See wants to communicate "its message of love and tolerance" that they falsely claim is the basis of their beloved Buy-bull?

Keep preaching ignorance and and your sheep are the embodiment of the term defective-defective minds.

  9. Thank goodness for Towleroad continuing to compile a record of all these homophobic utterances from religious "leaders" and celebrities.

One day soon this sort of despicable prejudice borne of ignorance will be seen for what is.

Today seems like a good day to type:

    We shall overcome.

  10. Aguilar also said that Pope Francis wasn't accepting homosexuality when he said "who am I to judge?"

Another Cardinal from another country denying Francis' words of tolerance. This one just appointed by Francis. Every anti-gay Catholic gets to define & redefine the Pope's words to suit their views. If what they're saying isn't true wouldn't Francis have said something to correct them by now?

    Why the silence Francis?

  15. How many children has Fernando Sebastian Aguilar fondled? How many young men has he sexually abused? How many prostitutes has he patronized? How much money has he stolen from parishoners?

It is well known in Spain that priests are some of the most corrupt public figures--on par with conservative politicians, and certain members of the royal family.

Gays and lesbians should fight back against this kind of abusive hate speech. Demand investigations into the finances of Fernando Sebastian Aguilar. You're guaranteed to find history of fraud and corruption.

  17. Fernando, in as friendly a way as I can put it, you have a serious defect. You are intellectually defective. Unfortunately, you are probably too old to correct it. Fortunately, good people can love the defective, just not the defect.

  18. Of course homosexuality is a defect; your Catechism says so,you must believe it....."intrinsically defective", that's what you say we are.
You are just restating the obvious and doctrinal beliefs of the Catholic Church.

Keep digging you scumbags......your hole is now so deep and bigoted that at last people are seeing you priests for what you are, scared, self promoting fantasists. You invented Limbo, Original Sin, Virgin Birth, Assumption of Christ and Mary bodily into the sky.......the list of Catholic concoctions is endless.
Keep digging you scumbags of bigotry.

  20. Cardinal Aguilar: "We have a lot of defects in our bodies". Suggestion to the Pope: All priests have to be castrated! With so much less hormones...fewer pedophiles, fewer nuns giving birth, etc.

  21. As it is written in the Book of Bernadette 2:3, "Stop flexing your muscles, you big pile of budgie t*rd. I'm sure your mates will be much more impressed if you just go back to the pub and f**k a couple of pigs on the bar."

If you can pull stuff out of your a$s and claim it as reason, I can quote Priscilla Queen of the Desert as gospel.

  22. Priests are defective humans. They attempt to cut themselves off from human love and sexuality in order to join a corrupt institution and serve and imaginary being.

The massive (and massively underreported) rate of sexual abuse among priests is a manifestation of them realizing that their chosen defective way of life is a dead end.

After they rape children and steal from the public, they become bitter and jaded just like Fernando Sebastian Aguilar. The longer they serve, and the higher they move up the corporate church hierarchy, the more bitter and disillusioned and perverted they become, and they simply can't hold back their bitter bile at the empty, loveless lives they've led.

  24. In 2007, this man expressed support for the current version of Spain's Falange party, the fascist party associated with Spain's longtime fascist dictatorship. He said this party and other ultra-right-wing parties are "worthy of support" because they want to stay faithful to what he considers the church's traditional social doctrine.

  25. PS :
    Grow up boys.
    The Pope is a Jesuit.
He will say any form of words to ease the outcry against the Catholic Church for its bigotry.
You all jump on the bandwagon of Pope Francis' words........
    Just wait for the deeds.
Wait form him to repeal this hateful clause of their Catechism which calls us "intrinsically defective".
Let's see the actions of this man ---not his pat-on-the-head Jesuit words.
