and the first 4 minutes was an intro. was it really necessary for so much excess? geeze louise

  2. Anony6 says

I think this vid will be bigger than Applause. I like it! Excess is Gaga, lol, and fitting for this song given its elements of roman mythology. I would have cut the credits though. Those credits will definitely cost view counts.

On another note, the subject matter of the song and the lyrics are an interesting social commentary on gender roles, romantic expectations, and self image.

  3. Max says

Is it me or she’s always doing the same video over and over? Or is it all her videos in one? Seems like she doesn’t know what to do anymore.

  4. Patrick says

I am now visually inundated. Pretentious, sometimes funny crap: couldn’t last the whole “film.”

  5. Kev C says

With all the money she wastes on making nonsensical eyecandy, she could pay some real musicians to play real musical instruments.
    Waahwaah = dubstep bass
    Ding ding = retro-synth
    Yodel yodel = autotune

    Same thing every time

  6. Martin says

She needs to scale down the excess. The future is muted, not over the top. She should know that. I love a good pop song, but she does not understand restraint and that’s not being artistic or forward-thinking.

As Beyonce once said : Bad Gaga.

  7. MIke says

What’s the point of listing 650 people at the end? Honey it wasn’t that good. But thanks for telling me your manicurist, sure was bugging me wondering who.

  8. Ziad says

She lists everyone because she doesn’t want the any member of the production to be left out, from the lowest of the low to the executives. It was actually rather sweet.

I liked the video. The summary is that she was ravaged for her money, and she eventually was able to rise from the ashes. She sought to create an army that represents her favorite characteristics (epitomized by Ghandi, Lennon, Jesus, and Michael). She then spends all her riches on changing the world for the better, while remaining a fundemental part of it as well. She is now the guy and the G.U.Y.

  10. JAMES B. says

She really had a strong team behind her on the first and second album. She’s lost that steam on this one. Makes you realize how quickly A-status can go away.

Feel like this is a Bravo-sponsored video. While else have a middle age man (Andy Cohen) and a large number of middle-aged woman be so prominently feautred by an “artist” who’s demographic is clearly outside that group.

Strange choices in a way that don’t work. I do love San simeon. Wish they spent more time on the house and the grounds. Less time on Gaga’s ass and the standard gold booty shorts.

  11. TomTallis says

It’s called the Hearst Castle, not the Hearst Mansion. The Hearst Mansion(s) were in Brentwood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica (the last one is now the Santa Monica Beach Club and has 100 rooms).

  12. BrokebackBob says

Comparing Lady Gaga to -anyone- else is stupid. She is one of a kind and will outlive all of us through her art. Like Madonna, like James Cagney, like Bette Davis, like so many talented flames of life. Miley Cyrus will be for forgotten within the decade. Quality rules, celebrity drools.

  13. Felix says

She’s no doubt talented and REALLY dig some of her songs, but I will never forgive her for bringing the worst ever kind of internet trolls in history: “the little monsters”

  14. MadonnaAidsFlop says

I love the video. It’s better than anything Aids starter Madonna ever did.

  15. sam says

Lady Gaga’s album has flopped big time and now she’s employed aging queen Andy Cohen to revive her stocks with ‘the gays’. Darling, Cohen is crap,. You’re trying too hard.

  16. moike says

That was really fun. Best video she’s done in years! I wouldn’t know a Real Housewife if it bit me, so as extras they were fine. G.U.Y. is an excellent choice for a single. The video definitely felt like the final video for this album, though. Bummer but not surprising, I guess.

  17. Reality says

Andy Cohen and the Real Housewives nearly ruin this entire thing … there was no reason whatsoever for them to be a part of it.

  18. edger says

Ack . Sorry. Gaga is yesterday’s news. but I guess nobody buys that you’re pretentious anymore when you’re covered head to toe in vomit. more particularly, somebody else’s moment.she’s not an artist. She’s an attention whore.

  19. gr8guya says

The credits are ridiculous. I am surprised that Gaga didn’t include her doctor and OB/GYN on the list.

  20. david says

Actually it is called San Simeon – but the common folk call Hearst Castle – just so you know

  21. Brian Griffin says

It would have been fun if she had incorporated some of Orsen Welles imagery from Citizen Kane. I wish Gaga were more clever about incorporating references to other works into her work. If the summary for the video listed in previous comments is true, then no wonder I didn’t get that out of the vid – it’s all so simple and boringly straight forward. I was looking for imagination and art.

  22. UFFDA says

KEVC thanks for that clarity. Connecting the dots.

It’s disheartening to see so much rancor here about Gaga when she made it so plesantly clear during her interview with Weir (seen elsewhere) that she and the crew/cast were all having fun and hoped to convey the lightheartedness of their good time together. As with well-intentioned politicians who are attempting to do good, why bother when so many of your contsituents are unfit to serve. Gah to the negative.

  23. Keppler says

Andy Cohen as [insert deity]. Zeus I can understand. He’d be a fun Zeus. But the Judeo-Xtian God? Hmmmm…. I don’t think so. I think the job would bore him – too much senseless vengeance, and not enough giggles. Probably not a good fit.

  24. tristram says

Gaga is, has and will always be the same: Either you get it or you don’t. And as for the housewives: Surely a touch of genius. Low culture elevated to art is exactly what pop art or ‘art pop’ is all about. Plus come on: Who can resist Lisa Vanderpump tapping along on a tambourine. Sorry, but there is much more at work here than meets some of the nasty commenters’ eyes. Maybe they’d feel more at home over on Katy Perry’s Vevo.

  25. Alex Brown says

I like Gaga. I like that she takes her work seriously and is coming from a place of good intent (as opposed to trying to predict the market or going for lowest common denominator). I agree with some of the other commenters that she could definitely use some restraint in her work. Great art can be made within strict parameters.

  26. Donny says

The bottom line is that it’s about the music and it needs to be better. The video is fine but it did nothing to elevate the song because it’s just not a good song. ARTPOP is a mess of an album.

  27. garryo says

    Very expensive production; yikes.

The only prop missing in that pool scene was a shark–jumping up to nibble on Stefani’s cadaver before it gently sinks to the bottom.

Can’t understand how the director forgot that shot.

  28. Steve Talbert says

According to the lyrics, Andy is Eros the son of Aphrodite and she is signing to him.

  29. Steve Talbert says

Or maybe Andy is supposed to be Anteros, the sound quality was a little off, so hard to hear.

  30. Brion says

The time is over. Unlistenable. Unwatchable. The epic levels of bologna would be better used to make a sandwich and feed the poor.

  31. luminum says

“She was ravaged for her money…and spends all her money making the world better.”

Yeah. Tell me what Born This Way Foundation has done with its 3.5 million in donations? A bus tour that they can’t/won’t even describe, a Google map, and a PDF image. Lovely. Oh yes, and a huge tax write off. Thanks for the “help”.

  32. SDAndy says

I actually think this is more “classic Gaga” It was a good video. I HATE the Bravo plugs but otherwise it was entertaining. I can’t hate when Gaga spends a good amount of time dancing.
