Courtney Love: 'Drag Queens Taught Me How To Be A Rock Star'

Occasional lady lover and gay marriage supporter Courtney Love — who has expressed love for her gay fans in the past  — gave props to drag queens in a recent interview with Gay Times magazine:

“When I was a kid I was definitely what you would call a fag hag because that's how I learned to dress and be extrovert and walk into a room… I would say my freshman year of learning how to be a rock star was just hanging around drag queens…

[When asked why she thinks she’s regarded as a gay icon, she added,] “I think it's surviving. It has to be. Surviving, and also the ability to do drag, to clean up nice. I might look like shit this morning, but you know, I clean up nice.”

Love expressed appreciation for her gay fans in an August 2013 Vanity Fair interview and also appeared in the documentary about Hole’s lesbian drummer, Hit So Hard.

  1. How is Courtney expressing love for her gay fans? I don't see it.

  2. Say what you want about Ms. Love's actions or lack of communication skills but her heart is frequently in the right place.

  3. Sadly you should attribute your celebrity to your late bipolar husband. Please don't seek more light here.

  4. Courtney is definitely an ally, despite being such an irresponsible, narcissistic mess.

It's a bit unfair to say she owes her celebrity solely to Kurt, Hole was an important band.

This woman with her cis-het privilege.

  9. All gay men dress in drag?? Really?? I find it shocking that these 'wordly' diva's only know gay men as drag queens or bitchy hand bag holders.

  10. Professing one's self as an icon, gay or otherwise, does not make one an icon.
