Gay 'Big Brother Canada' Housemate Kenny Brain Has Stayed in the Closet, Until This Week: VIDEO

Kenny_brain

Remember Kenny Brain, the gay model and Big Brother Canada housemate with the epic beard we met last month? Well, he's been keeping his sexual orientation from his housemates, until this week, when he decided to tell one of them.

BrainWatch him tell his housemate Sarah, AFTER THE JUMP...

The Vancouver Sun has some thoughts:

Kenny Brain is out in his life away from the reality-TV series. But in the house, Kenny is pretending to be straight, flirting with the women and telling stories about his ex-girlfriends, changing “he” to “she” in the recounting. From the start, he’s told the truth to viewers, explaining in the confessional atmosphere of the show’s diary room that he is gay, but playing straight to get further in the game. He thought that he would have more of an advantage with the girls in the house if they thought he was “showmance” material.

Being someone he’s not for more than a month proved too much, though. On Monday, he shared his secret with fellow contestant Sarah Miller, but decided not to tell anyone else in the Big Brother Canada house, for now.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve ever hidden who I am … I don’t want people to watch this and do the same thing,” he told her. “I needed to tell someone or I was going to die.”

And that highlights what’s at stake here. Kenny might be doing it for the game, but he’s also sending a message to viewers of the show, which skew young, that being gay would hold him back. For decades, the LGTBQ community has fought for basic human rights, for recognition that one’s sexuality shouldn’t be grounds for discrimination. Kenny is taking those hard-won rights and shoving them back in the closet. And that’s not right.

And if you missed the earlier Kenny post with the sexy shots, catch it HERE.

  1. Not sure why it would hold him back. I mean, Gary got second last season (though it took executive meddling to get him back in, but he wasn't voted out because he was gay). Producers pushed him as their chosen one and he had a lot of fan support. He was well liked int he house (for some reason, I fund him annoying but whatever). Showmanced are always a double-edged sword anyway, most ending up being a liability before long.

  2. He's on slop, sulking around the house and about to get nommed for eviction. He is a very sad boy right now. I don't think it will matter much in a week's time unless he wins or finds one of the available vetoes.

  5. Why would someone not think this guy was gay?

  6. He doesn't need to say anything, sporting that 1800's gross gay beard fad.

  7. Canadian viewers were in charge of nominations this week and his alliance members were put on the block. He was afraid his dishonesty was going to get him in trouble with the public, too.

  8. It sounds more like he is calculating how to create moments of visibility for himself on the show. How do you get screen time on reality shows? You create your own storylines. It's pathetic.

  9. But he has an attractive Colin Farrell sexy vibe about him and a really big package filling his briefs in that pic...so just give him the prize.

  10. Let us observe that this young man had difficulty keeping this secret for a few weeks. It wasn't too long ago in the USA when men HAD to keep this same secret for years, for decades; struggling to keep all of the little white lies in line; dying a bit each time a lie had to be created or affirmed to protect oneself or one's "reputation." That is the kind of suffering imposed by laws in Russia and Uganda, and that theocracy imposes in Iran, and other religiously fundamentalist areas.

  14. In Big Brother, being gay does hold you back some because having a showmance in the house does help your game. If everyone knows you're gay then it would be hard to have that kind of showmance.

Just because YOU haven't heard of her it does not mean she's not known. Try a quick Google search when you run across a topic you can learn more about. There's a whole world of music outside of mainstream pop.
