Benham Bros on HGTV Cancellation: 'Anyone Who Suggests We Hate Misinformed or Lying'

David and Jason Benham, the would-be HGTV hosts whose show was canceled yesterday by the network after Right Wing Watch wrote a lengthy post about their family's anti-gay, anti-choice, and anti-Muslim extremism, have released a statement posted by USA Today.

Said the brothers:

"The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ's light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying. Over the last decade, we've sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views...

...We were saddened to hear HGTV's decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it."

In related news, Jeremy Hooper makes note that some have said that David Benham is disconnected from Operation Save America. Not true.

  2. Nope. They've made their bed. Now they can sleep in it. Don't trust them. "Biblical this, biblical that" nonsense.

  3. This will free them up to sell more homes.

  4. Jesus-freaks.

    They are mentally ill.

Anyone who believes in that 'god' thing has a mental illness.

  6. Protip: Using the word "homosexuals" to refer to gay folks is generally an indicator of how you actually feel about gay folks.

  7. HGTV is not the place to spew your "biblical principles." They may want to see if they get on the 700 Club. Morons.

  8. Right Wing Watch had a long list of the hateful, horrible, judgemental crap at least one of the brothers has spewed for years. Their father is one of the most hateful, horrible, human beings on the planet, and that is well documented as well. It's not about your "faith" boys, is about the arrogant, self-aggrandizing way in which you throw that "faith" around to demean and attack others.

  9. Why do I get the feeling they are going to be commentators on FOX news soon?

  10. ...besides that show only would have cut into their buy-bull time.

  11. It's not your faith you should be whining about, it's your actions that got you canned.

  12. What saddens me is they don't realize and acknowledge their negativity, and what saddens me the most is that they were raised by the fundy.

  15. I take it these Jesus-freaks are wealthy.

So they accept that aocording to their c**t of a 'god' that they will never enter 'heaven' as 'god' hates the rich?

  16. Is there anything more frustrating than to find out that hot young guys are virulent homophobes? It is almost as frustrating as fixing your eyes on a hot young guy and then seeing him walk over to his....girlfriend.....

  17. Yeah, I know. You love al the Homo's. Just so long as they turn into straight people at some point. And the stay away from children, and all your pets, and don't infect your world. And of course We are all condemned to hell.

But other than that they just love the Homos!

  20. More of the same old hate the sin, love the sinner crap, lets flip that!
Hate the religion, love the believer.
Now how do the hypocrites feel about that.

  21. For people of their ilk, actively campaigning against the freedoms of others is not hate. (They choose that word “hate” on purpose.) When they protest at pride events or in from of mosques, that’s their version of love, or at least that’s what they tell themselves.

David Benham, protesting the Democratic National Convention in 2012, said “homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation” and “demonic ideologies tak[ing] our universities and our public school systems”.

  23. Who says "two twin brothers"? My neighbor across the street resembles them and thinks like them. He may have a hot body but a very mean face up close even when he smiles.

    Posted by: Matt F | May 8, 2014 10:59:19 AM

  24. they don't see it as hating gay people, they "love" the person, but hate the supposed "sin" of homosexuality - which they use to justify all of their anti-gay speech and behavior. it's sick how they don't consider fighting against gay rights as discrimination, but not getting a television show because you fight against the rights of others is. hypocrites.

  25. "Is there anything more frustrating than to find out that hot young guys are virulent homophobes?"

It kinda calls into your question your whole schtick that straight men are more favorable to us than women are, eh, Rick?
