John Oliver Hosts a Must-See Climate Change Debate: VIDEO

As is becoming standard, it takes a fake news comedy show rather than major news outlets to report on the facts as they are instead of catering to excessive spin, bias, and false equivalencies.

A Statistically Representative Climate Change DebateOn this past Sunday's Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver shines a light on the absurdity surrounding the climate change "debate." What he points out is that the major news outlets frame the debates with a one-on-one false equivalency, typically with "bullying scare-monger" Bill Nye arguing for the existence of climate change and "some dude" against, giving the misleading impression that the topic is still open for debate.

Oliver decides to balance things out a bit on his show and has Bill Nye, along with 96 others, argue against 3 "deniers" for what he calls "A Stastically Representative Climate Change Debate." Bedlam ensues after about half a second.

  1. Since when is Bill Nye an expert on climate change? Instead of getting a TV science guy, why not get a real climate scientist? The argument would be much more compelling.

  2. Umm David you missed the point...

  3. I completely agree with you, Michael. Far from the point! On a dumb level, it would be equally stupid to get a real scientist. Put someone on TV who isn't a personality will have a larger effect? How so? Take a poll on who knows who Bill versus your awesomely smart geography professor or biology teacher. Duh...

  4. If there is a mountain of facts supporting this BS then how come every article on the subject is full of weasel words?

  5. give it 20 years deniers and then we can discuss it

  6. "weasel words" .... you mean like those used by climate change deniers?

  7. Al Franken said it well. If your doctor told you that your child had a life threatening condition and immediate action was necessary, you'd be wise to get a second opinion. But would you really go to 96 more doctors until you found one who said nah, don't worry?

  8. George Will also put it nicely: "When a liberal proclaims "The debate is over!" , you can be sure of two things: One, the debate is raging, and Two, they're losing it."

  9. George Will also predicted Mitt Romney would win in a landslide.

  10. Who the f*ck is George Will and why should I care? Only in America could overwhelming scientific proof that climate change is an impending international disaster be turned into a psuedo-liberal conspiracy to extort helpless "god"-fearin' Amurican freedom fighters.

  11. Brilliant!

  12. I suppose the "debate" will rage on in the right wing bubble until Bob Jones U is under water. But in the real world, observable facts matter more than the lunatic opinions of Ann Coulter and Charles Krauthammer.

  13. Of course the climate is changing and it has been doing so for millions of years.

  14. The moment climate change incontrovertibly causes major costs to big business and Republican millionaires, it will suddenly become a serious matter, and be blamed on the last Democratic administration.

  15. When an opinion columnist writes last week that a primary factor behind the kidnapping and abuse of hundreds of Nigerian girls is "climate change", yeah, I don't think it's EVER going to be a "serious matter".

  16. I have complete faith no one is going to lift a finger to stop climate change. About as far as the typical American will go is recycle their garbage. Where I drive it's about 75% SUV's on the road, not Priuses. Do people put solar panels on their roofs? No, it costs $25K and lasts only about fifteen years before needing replacement. Who has that kind of money? Buying local? Your produce now comes from China. 50% of the country gets their groceries from Walmart, which gets almost 90% of their food stock from outside the US.
