Security Camera Captures Incredible Footage of Truck Being Struck By Lightning: VIDEO

Screen Shot 2014-06-09 at 11.43.05 AM

A security camera in Alberta, Canada captured this…wait for it…shocking footage of a Chevrolet pickup truck being struck by lighting while driving down the highway.

Check it out, AFTER THE JUMP...

Al and Betty Perry, the couple in the truck, told CTV Edmonton News that following the strike the airbags deployed and cabin began filling with smoke. The couple tried to escape but with the truck's electric system fried, the doors and windows wouldn’t open from the locked position. Luckily, a passing police officer witnessed the scene and was able to smash out the window using his baton.

  1. OMG, they are so lucky a cop was near. A stunning picture.

  2. I'm sure Pat Robertson will have an explanation of why this happened...

  4. I've never seen a car or truck with power locks that didn't have a manual option to unlock the door.

  5. But to be fair, the couple were probably too freaked out to do much thinking in that moment. My first car got struck by lightening and fried everything. It's very scary.

  6. Why would anyone buy a car with no manual door handle? OnStar (mandatory on all GM vehicles) has been hacked before... it could kill you by constantly sending a "lock doors" signal to your car until your battery runs down, then there's no power left to unlock them.

  7. Fortunately they were in Canada. In the US the cop would have shot the passengers or arrested them for reckless driving at least.

  8. I had always been taught that lightning doesn't strike cars. Something about them being grounded by the tires touching the earth. Apparently that's not true (?). Yikes.

  9. Why does god hate Chevy trucks, or Canadians, or Alberta, or rural folk? Hope both occupants are ok and have managed to get a change of knickers.

  10. Pet peeve: Adding a clarifying "Canada" at the end when referring to Canadian provinces (as in "Alberta, Canada"). Morons who don't recognize the names of Canadian provinces don't deserve to have their ignorance catered to. Corollary: Don't say "Edmonton, Canada." Say "Edmonton, Alberta," or just "Edmonton."
