Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni Says Foreign Aid Is 'Sinful': VIDEO

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said that receiving foreign aid in exchange for the fair treatment of his country’s LGBT community is “sinful," according to The Telegraph.

Yoweri museveniSeveral countries have cut aid to Uganda in response to the introduction of severe anti-gay laws that include a sentence of life imprisonment.

Last month the U.S. cut aid to Uganda, imposed visa restrictions on Ugandans involved in human rights violations, and cancelled a planned military exercise with the Ugandan army.

Speaking at a religious conference in Kampala, Museveni welcomed cuts to foreign aid because they had "aroused" Ugandans and made them realise they needed to "undertake serious work" to build self-reliance.

Museveni continued that to accept aid in return for fair treatment of homosexuals “is a bad omen, you are committing a sin to offer that aid, or to receive it.”

Speaking to The Telegraph, Tamale Mirundi, a spokesman for Museveni, said:

"In his speech [Museveni] made clear that Uganda can be self-reliant, and the aid cuts have woken us up and invigorated us. The president has always opposed aid, from the beginning."

  1. "The president has always opposed aid, from the beginning." PFFFFffffff What a gas-bag. What a bunch of blatant self-serving propaganda. He opposed aid from the beginning?! As the leader of the country, he couldn't have turned it down? Were all these countries twisting his arm?! Nonsense.

I'm so sick of the Ugandans that still feel that aid would still be useful, or that they are entitled to it. Aid would be useless. Uganda's solution to HIV is suppressing LGBTs. That's what the money would go towards; police task forces that go around shutting down HIV clinics that dare to treat LGBTs. Obviously this Scott Lively solution to HIV isn't going to work, and throwing money at Uganda would be the stupidest thing to do with money, the country may as well burn it or catapult it into the nearest ocean.

  2. I am really not liking Towleroad's recent sloppiness, where unrelated videos are attached to posts, as if they have something to do with the post, and as if they haven't already been embedded into other posts.

    Stop it, Jim.

  4. And how many billions of aid did these slow learners receive before the revelation that it was sinful ?

How many Swiss bank accounts does this two faced toad have ?
Does anyone know if Scott Lively is in jail yet ?

  5. @ Randy - why do you feel that video was unrelated?

  6. I fully agree that giving aid to countries with cesspool human rights is a sin. Let them rot until the people rise up. Large majorities in these god fearing countries agree that killing gays is okay and we send millions to keep them alive to do just that.

  7. Scummy, bloated old tick sucking off the pain of the poor and babbling about sin. The sin is that a greedy leech like him has a position of power.

  8. Judging from his clothing, the aid he opposes is aid not lining his own pockets.

  10. There is certainly some question about the rest of US aid, directed to I suppose stuff like malaria and AIDS and other stuff like that. These programs save lives, but this guy is suddenly above all aid it seems. And what about the big stuff we are not in direct control of like maybe billions from the World Bank?

  19. There are two people posting as "Bill" on this thread. Hint to towleroad - when people post a message, there is a field for an email address but the address isn't displayed. Towleroad's software could use that email address to distinguish between two individuals posting with the same name and add a note to the name (e.g., Bill [#1] or Bill [#2]) to resolve the ambiguity. That's easy to do and would not result in readers confusing the two individuals.
