Evangelical Hatemonger Scott Lively Qualifies For November Ballot As Independent: VIDEO

The Boston Globe is reporting that evangelical hatemonger Scott Lively has gathered the necessary signatures to qualify for the November ballot as an independent candidate for governor.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth's office confirmed Wednesday that Lively's campaign submitted 11,494 valid signatures, far above the 10,000 needed to secure ballot access as an independent this fall.

Lively joins the future Republican and Democratic nominees as well as independent candidate Evan Falchuk as candidates certified for the November ballot.

Back in March, Britain's Channel 4 looked at Lively's involvement with Uganda's anti-gay law and his long-shot candidacy in Massachusetts. You can check out that video, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. This confirms everything I already knew about Scott Lively, he is a delusional maniac.

  2. If there was ever a sign of the End Times, it wouldn't be gays getting married or finally earning equality; it'd be when this crapstain won an election.

  3. I'm not worried that he could be governor- that won't happen.... but 11,000 signatures?? that is disconcerting. Hopefully, they were people who really didn't know about him.

  4. LOL

seeing as how scott brown had to be way more liberal than the average repub to win his 1 time senate bid, this guy who is wackadoodle right of the majority of repubs has no chance in Massachusetts

  5. So, we in MA now have a gubernatorial candidate who is currently awaiting trial for crimes against humanity?! Why was this not mentioned?

  7. Good! Nothing brings out the skeletons from the closet than running for election....I want to see every hateful, bile-ridden secret thrown out for the public to see.

  8. Listen up, Scott:

    It's *your* Hell;
    *You* burn in it.

  9. @WCT That is true if the subject is a credible candidate. No one is going to waste campaign resources on this clown.

  11. @Jay: You forgot Egotistical in your list. Even he must know he has a snowball's chance of winning, so clearly he is doing this for the attention and bragging rights (I was a candidate for state governor). At least if he is spending money on his ego campaign, he won't be spending it to actually accomplish something.

  12. I hope each of the 11,000 people who signed for him donate the maximum allowable contribution--and he loses. Every dollar they give to him is a dollar that they won't give to a more viable anti-equality candidate.

Though--given that Massachusetts led the nation in marriage equality, I don't think it's going backwards any time soon.

  13. To those who keep wondering all over the comments threads why Towleroad keeps us abreast of what prejudiced butt holes like Lively, because of exactly THIS!

Said oft-proven butt hole has amassed over 10 000 votes to qualify as a candidate for governor.

Over 10 000 people donated and will most-likely vote for him as a political figure, who might in the future have a chance to negatively impact the characterization of new laws.

That is why we need to be kept informed, for when we turn a blind eye, those who mean us ill will and harm seem to gain popularity, and thereafter power, while we do NOTHING.

And isn't doing nothing = Supporting or even acceptance.

  14. Here's a campaign slogan for him: "Make Massachusetts Uganda".

  16. He'll never win the state as an independent. So at least he'll be wasting a lot of his own money running.

  17. His campaign may be money wasted but because of the campaign finance laws he may be able to run away with quite a bundle of cash. Sucker money, but it pays the bills.

Perhaps the pulpit isn't producing like it used to. Went to the well too many times?

  20. Good. Keep him around so when he is convicted of crimes against humanity they will know exactly where to pick him up.

  21. It is hard to understand and believe that someone like Mr. Lively is a viable candidate for any type of elected office except maybe for rat/dog catcher.............

  22. @Scott : maybe they do know about him and figure that the money he'll spend on the campaign is money he won't be spending on his anti-gay garbage.

Besides, he must see the proverbial handwriting on the wall, in which case he must realize that his anti-gay gig is on its last legs and that he needs some exposure to get himself hired for something else. Running for governor might be a face-saving way for him abandon ship without appearing to be like the captain of the Costa Concordia, who abandoned ship while letting passengers on his sinking ship fend for themselves.
