Hate Groups Holding Convention To Plan 'Moral Revolution'

ELRC national conference

Well this should be a tragic trainwreck. The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission are planning on holding a national conference in Nashville discussing the topic of "The Gospel, Homosexuality, and the Future of Marriage." Sure to be an informed an insightful affair, the conference will have speakers like Ryan T. Anderson, Jim Daly, and Kelly Rosati.

Topping it all off, one of the speakers is Christopher Yuan, a young man who "began living promiscuously as a homosexual and experimenting with illicit drugs. Within a few years, he was expelled from dental school, imprisoned for drug dealing, and discovered that he was HIV positive. Christopher has co-authored with his mother their memoir, Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son’s Journey to God, A Broken Mother’s Search for Hope."

Note that Yuan is not gay, according to the bio, just that he "lived as a homosexual." Also note that his history perfectly feeds into the wingnut narrative about the destructiveness of the "gay lifestyle." Heaven forbid they should invite an emotionally-balanced homosexual who didn't self-destruct to speak on the topic of gayness.

Sponsors include Focus on the Family, various Baptist Theological Seminaries, and Manhattan Declaration. Prepare for there to be precisely zero seminars about the invalidity of Las Vegas drive-thru marriages or the validity of Biblically-mandated marriages between a rapist and his victim.

  1. I feel pretty confident not following the moral leadership of people whose moral blueprint is a book that sets out rules for selling one's daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:7-11).

  2. Let's get that gay U Ambassador to .....(I've forgotten where) to speak at this rally....about how rewarding and fulfilling any man can be in a chosen career.

Does that not fit in with their narrative ?
Or maybe they don't like success.
How unAmerican these wing nut bigots are.

  3. "...Living as a homosexual".

I'm not even sure how you do that. Would it require a Target charge card, a bright-colored car, lots of trendy clothes and a penchant for vodka?

Could it be that instead of actually being gay, I've simply been "living" as a homosexual all this time and didn't know it?

    Hmm. Nah, I'm gay.

  5. Sounds like his mother always hated his homosexuality

Just because he was a trainwreck doesn't mean all gays are trainwrecks. VENN DIAGRAMS people

  6. Thank you for covering this. This looks to be one of the largest anti-gay conventions in a while. Everyone who is anyone is coming.

As far as I know, Yuan has never claimed to be straight. He always couches his ex-gayness in terms of not having gay sex or having "walked away from the lifestyle." But he does not claim to have lost his same-sex attractions or to be attracted to women. The other "ex-gay" they have lined up is Rosario Butterfield a former "queer" academic. There aren't many self-declared ex-gays in the world, but of those few who exist, a surprising number are people who formerly identified as "queer." People who identify as "queer" are more susceptible to the religious fervor and self-hatred that come together in the form of the "ex-gay" phenomenon.

  7. @HISLV, His mother would rather blame everything rather than take responsibility for raising a promiscuous, drug addicted, dental school-drop-out idiot.

  8. Like all religious fundamentalists, these folks have a heck of a time getting their heads around the idea that living a life of celibacy and/or faux heterosexuality might bring some people a sense of peace, but that doesn't make it right for everyone else to be encouraged and/or forced to do the same.

  9. Such a shame that a nice hotel like the Opryland Hotel would host such a satan's feast of hate.

  10. By the by, this is a signal for LGBT folks to carry and conceal. It is our constitutional right. Stand your ground.

  11. It's time we face some of the facts. For example: Hate has become a subsidiary industry within organized religions. Haters of many denominations (and most not particularly religious) work together, share and coordinate their hate speech and at the same time earn money from their appearances, programs, etc. The latest development is this convention. Hate its being professionally organized as we speak and read. How much they earn with hate? How much are they spending on Hate? What's the cost of hate in America? Those are questions we need to answer in order to defeat hate in its many forms, once for all.

  13. I expect a lot of gay hustlers in TN are going to be getting a huge upswing in work during that weekend. I'm sure it'll be just a strange coincidence, of course. *wink*

  15. oh yes, these "revolutions" are so impressive in stature and quantity....all that heavy advertising and bravado with these right wing events and then 6 1/2 people show up and the news media is NOT allowed in to write about it except for WND, FOX or the Christian Broadcasting Co...wow....what's wrong with shining a light on this??!?! I would love to be a fly on the wall.....This line up of speakers is the greatest right wing top losers......Mr. Yuan is more than likely the keynote speaker.... How proud is this??!?!? How does one live as a homosexual, but not be gay?!!? Only the right wing can answer this with denial and minimization.................

  16. and after commenting a serious comment, now I want to write a non-serious comment... I hope these morally righteous folks hold their immoral event because I need a good laugh and comic relief when I read about their holy meeting went so I can laugh my ass off.................I am not sure what the purpose of this event is, but to me it is a second rate comedy.............

  17. Sorry, but Yuan is well below the generally high standard for Asian hotness.
