Road Could telenovelas help put an end to homophobia within the Latino community? "We need more novelas like Que Pobres Tan Ricos to challenge long-standing traditions of religious intolerance and machismo culture that many people still follow. We need novelas to show people how to compromise old dogmas and learn to respect other human beings despite their differences. We need them to help in the battle against sexism. We need to open the minds of Latino families because "less than half of LGBT Latino youth have an adult in their family they can  turn to if worried or sad".

Road Longtime ally Daniel Radcliffe on expanding LGBT visibility in the media: "The way gay people have been depicted [in entertainment] has changed so much in the last few years and hopefully that is what is normalizing it for everyone...Stories are now beginning to be told that include all different types and kinds of sexuality and characters who aren’t there for the sake of being gay, they just happen to be gay. It's actually the stories around their lives that are what keep us interested. I do think that in the next generation we will see an even bigger difference in how gay people are shown in the media and in film because people are getting over it, finally.”

Road 'Ex-gay' pens article over at Christian Post on why he hates the word gay: "I hate all the presuppositions attached to it. Like the presupposition that a fixed gay (or straight or bi, for that matter) sexual orientation is a legitimate reality. I don't believe that sexual orientation, as culture at large defines it, is real — and I know that I am in the teeniest of the tiniest minorities in holding that position. People who don't follow Jesus or embrace a biblical worldview laugh in my face — pretty hysterically, actually — when I tell them that I don't view sexuality through the lens of "gay" or "straight" or "bi."

I would have let you in if I could,'" Hard said. "This law makes unwilling accomplices of decent people. Very often folks here in Alabama say, 'You know, I voted for that law, but I would never have put you through what you’ve gone through."

  1. It's going to take more than gay friendly telenovelas to change the homophobia is Latino culture...

  2. The first look at the Saved By the Bell tv-movie looks remarkably like an African (American?) priest or cardinal. This story should be amaze-balls!

  3. "I don't believe that sexual orientation, as culture at large defines it, is real"

Sorry, Matty, but sexual orientation is exactly as real as race is. It has the same elements of identity, and behavior, attached to an underlying biological fact.

Jesus, on the other hand, is a fairy tale, exactly like all the other ones, except in current number of believers.

Still, sexual orientation, properly defined, should not be about "gay/straight" but about "attracted to males/attracted to females". "Gay/straight" mix two separate issues: ones own sex, and the sex one is attracted to. That's why courts have such a hard time identifying quite obvious sex discrimination when it's based on attraction (as opposed to any other thing) because suddenly it becomes "gay/straight".

  4. "I was really excited for tonight's "The Sixties" on CNN, but then CNN preempted it for real news :("

  5. Hopefully those CNN watchers never reproduce

Announcing the US sending aid to the Yazidi who were in danger of genocide and the bombing of isis is important. Especially since the kurds have been some of our only friends in the middle east and they are very pro west, secular, pro democracy, and pro america. Th pashmerga Kurd fighters have allowed women as fighters and politicians for quite some time

  6. "I haven’t talked to him in a couple of years, but I don’t worry about him. He’s a brilliant kid, talented and funny."

Cemeteries are full of people that were once brilliant, talented, and funny. None of those make you immune from depression, suicide, alcoholism, drub abuse, and accidental overdose, or countless other dangers.

Sounds like she has a lot to learn about life.

  7. @Mike, or maybe she doesn't worry about him because he's inconsequential to her. There's lots of people in this world -- most of them really -- that, if they merged with the infinite before their time I'd be sad about inasmuch as its a shame when people can't get their sh*t together and die young as a result, but who in day to day life I don't worry about at all.

I'd say if she's focused on people who are close to her, and lets go things she can't control, she's in a good place.

  8. I was interested in watching the latest episode of CNN's The Sixties too but for heaven's sake people, this was SERIOUS breaking news, of COURSE they have to interrupt the show. CNN repeats the series multiple times so it's not like the complainers will never see it again.

  9. @Nora Charles

Then she should have the integrity to answer the question in a different way, or not answer at all, rather than to spread the dangerous misinformation that nothing bad ever happens to brilliant, talented, and funny people.

  10. Now perhaps Victoria Jackson can finally get the long hospital stay and anti-psychotic drugs that she so desperately needs...

  11. How wonderful for the Log Cabinettes. Paul Ryan! I'm sure they are all just going to swoooon over Paul, just flock around him, drooling and screaming for his autograph and wow, maybe even touch his cloak (or suit). And Mary Cheney! Even more wow! Yes, the Log Cabinettes continue to reveal their self-loathing, right-wing, anti-American agenda. But hey! When you're for less government (at the expense of the middle-class), a stronger national defense (corporate cronyism), less corporate taxes (but more corporate welfare), more government interference in American's private lives, and for keeping those dark people out of America, well, the Republican Party is just the most fabulous fit of all!!

    You're welcome!
