Adidas Redesigns Its Signature Sneakers To Celebrate LGBT Pride: PHOTOS

To celebrate LGBT Pride Month, Adidas has colorfully redesigned its signature sneakers – dubbing the collection the "Pride Pack." Among the redesigned footwear is Adidas' flagship shoe the Stan Smith, which commemorates 1965 as the year the sneaker went into production along with one of the first LGBT pickets held at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on July 4, 1965.

The brand also gave its Superstar sneaker (released in 1969 – the same year as the Stonewall Riots) the pride treatment.

Adidas says it's donating a portion of the proceeds from the shoes to New Avenues for Youth, an organization geared toward assisting homeless youth. The colorful sneakers hit select stores worldwide on June 6.

Introducing the Pride Pack. With a story rooted in history, we're putting a foot down for equality.

A design inspired by the year 1965 when a movement began to seep onto the streets. Homophile organizations formed the first picket to demand equality for the gay and lesbian community. 1965, the year adidas introduced the Robert Haillet sneaker. This came to be known as the #stansmith.

Not every step is easy. But we celebrate all those who aren't afraid to take it. #superstar

In 1969, violent riots erupted on the streets of New York City after police raided the Stone Wall Inn, unjustly targeting the gay community. The #Superstar was also released that year and is now redesigned to remember all those who fought for equality.
