Bradley Cooper Named 'Sexiest Man Alive'

Bradley_cooper

Bradley Cooper has been named People's Sexiest Man Alive:

“I think it’s really cool that a guy who doesn’t look like a model can have this [title]… I think I’m a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying.”

Cooper, who was with Renée Zellweger for two years until their split in March and has been spotted out with Jennifer Lopez in recent months, says he's a "single 36-year-old male."

"If you're a single man and you happen to be in this business," he says, "you're deemed a player. But I don't see myself as a ladies' man."

Honestly, I think it was this interview in French that got him the title.

Check it out, AFTER THE JUMP...

News: False Memories, Tiger Cubs, A Famous Divorce

road With gay marriage now legal in New York State, businesses and their employees are wondering how to move forward on dollars and cents.

CaptChrisEvans road Death penalty dead in Illinois: "The fate of executions in the state was sealed in March when Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation ending the death penalty, following years of stories of men sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit and families of murder victims angrily demanding their loved ones' killers pay with their own lives."

road Peer pressure can lead to false memories. From 'Science' magazine: "We examined how socially induced memory errors are generated in the brain by studying the memory of individuals exposed to recollections of others. Participants exhibited a strong tendency to conform to erroneous recollections of the group, producing both long-lasting and temporary errors, even when their initial memory was strong and accurate."

road Remember when Congressional Republicans were obsessed with fighting marriage equality? Well, now they're moving away from the contentious issue. "When you got the highest unemployment, highest foreclosures and highest bankruptcy, social issues right now take a back seat to putting food on the table," said freshman Republican Senator Dean Heller of Nevada.

road Equality California remains adamant that they could build support for a 2012 ballot measure repealing Proposition 8, which forbids same-sex marriage. Said activist Kate Kendall to Rex Wockner: "There is clearly a momentum shift. But our poll numbers of likely voters have to be in high 50%. And we need to see a much more engaged base. But surely New York helps re-open the conversation."

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
You should totally celebrate by finding JANE EYRE this weekend and falling in love with Irish/German Michael Fassbender along with Jane and the rest of the world. While it's possibly true that the sudden collective Fassboner is more publicist command than organic development, it couldn't happen to a better actor. He's the real deal. (See also: Hunger, Fish Tank, Inglourious Basterds for an extraordinarily rangey, complicated star-is-born quadruple.) Fassbender was recently seen filming sex scenes in public [NSFW] for the sex-addiction drama SHAME as if to taunt (or reward?) his millions of new admirers. That future film, which co-stars Carey Mulligan, will reunite him with his Hunger director Steve McQueen. I can't recommend their first collaboration highly enough as their telling of the Irish hunger prison strike in Thatcher era Britain is visceral take-no-prisoners stuff in both direction and performance. Hunger is the kind of film you should only watch with all the lights off and your phone turned off and your hands from the remote control; distractions will ruin its hypnotic commitment.

Opening:
Bradley Cooper headlines LIMITLESS as a writer who makes a miraculous about face once he ingests a super drug, becoming his perfect self.

It's a neat parallel with Cooper's own backstory that he's been selling that his career took a while to take off because he "wasn't f**kable enough". Problem long since solved? MORE AFTER THE JUMP...

Bradley Cooper Fantasized About (Being) the Soloflex Guy

Cooper

Bradley Cooper talks to Details about his A-Team physique

“As the movie progressed, I got in increasingly better shape. There’s this one fight scene with Liam Neeson toward the end, where it’s, like, the apex of the work … I swear to God, it looked like my head was digitally superimposed onto someone else’s body. I was like, ‘This cannot be me—that’s the way I look?’ … ‘Cause as a kid I only fantasized about looking that way. Remember Soloflex commercials? That was huge when I was a kid. It was like, ‘I wanna be the Soloflex guy. Mom, can we get the Soloflex?’”

I wanted to be the Soloflex guy too. And I also wanted the Soloflex guy. Here's a refresher, and here.

Cooper better stop with that chit-chat. Mr. T might come after him for talking too gay.

But Retford, in Nottinghamshire, has taken the radical step of appointing the youngest mayor in the country, 23-year-old Ian Campbell. Campbell was this month elected as a Labour district councillor for Bassetlaw, beating his Conservative rival by just 15 votes. Surprisingly, the Conservative-controlled council then nominated and voted Campbell to be mayor for the year...Campbell rose to prominence as a gay rights activist after being thrown out of his family home for coming out. In 2009, he was named Nottinghamshire's young person of the year for his work visiting schools and colleges nationwide, and running workshops to counter homophobic bullying. His sexuality was not an issue during his campaign to be elected a councillor, which pleased him.
