Cher's Joel Osteen Tweet Causes Gay Firestorm, Drama

CherOsteen1

Here are the facts: singer Cher last night took to Twitter to praise inspirational speaker preacher Joel Osteen. "I love Joel Osteen, he's an example of Christian," she wrote. Osteen is "funny" and "not preachy."

After being reminded that Osteen thinks being gay is a sin, Cher soon tweeted, "He's pretty uncool about the about gays." Thus began a back-and-forth between the singer and her equality-minded fans, culminating in an appropriately dramatic ending: Cher threatening to leave Twitter.

Cher Developing Broadway Musical About Her Life

Cher is beginning to reveal plans, via Twitter, about a musical she is developing for Broadway about her life, according to the Hollywood Reporter:

CherThe Burlesque star explained that the show would feature three important stages in her life: the first before meeting future husband Sonny Bono through the couple’s Sonny & Cher days; another after her split from Bono through her comeback Believe tour; and current day, which includes recording new music and a potential fall tour. According to the singer, the show would feature her original music.

“I hope it happens!” Cher added of the project. “It’s a VERY SLOW PROCESS! Been working on it quite a while now.”
As for whether the show would be a starring vehicle for the 66-year-old, Cher jokes that she may play “old Cher.”

“She’s wise n tells 2 young 1’s not 2 fear future,” she wrote.

President Lauds LGBT Accomplishments In L.A. Speech

ObamaLGBT

President Obama was greeted by cheers and chants from about 600 people during an LGBT fundraiser in Los Angeles last night. Appearing before Ellen DeGeneres, Cher and Glee actor Darren Criss, the commander-in-chief celebrated his pro-equality positions and vowed to continue expanding inclusive politics should he be elected for another term.

"The fight for equality and justice on behalf of the LGBT community is just part of a broader fight on behalf of all Americans," he said at the event, which helped raised an estimated $5 million. "The scope of this country has always been to further broaden the meaning of citizenship to include more and more people; to give better and better expression to our highest aspirations; to make the country more fair and more just and more equal. That’s what wars were fought about. That’s what the civil rights movement was about. That’s what the women’s movement was all about. That’s what the workers’ movement was all about -- this constant progression to include more and more people in the possibility of the American Dream. And so this is just one more step in that journey that we’ve taken as a nation."

Reading over his speech, it's clear President Obama intends on making his pro-LGBT accomplishments, including his hate crimes law and DADT's repeal, cornerstones in his reelection campaign and, honestly, it's touching to feel included in his political plan.
