Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) Explains Why Same-Sex 'Massages' Make Gays Unfit for Military Service - VIDEO

Gohmert

Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, who has found ways to oppose gun control because...same-sex marriage (?), was quite vocal recently about Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Of course he opposed the repeal of the discriminatory policy, but who knew his reasoning could be this far-fetched.

When the ancient Greeks and man-on-man massages play into your law-making, you can't exactly claim you "know your history," as Gohmert does.

Right Wing Watch reports on his statement:

"I've had people say, 'Hey, you know, there's nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks,'" he said. "Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle. But you know what, it's a different kind of fighting, it's a different kind of war and if you're sitting around getting massages all day ready to go into a big, planned battle, then you're not going to last very long. It's guerrilla fighting. You are going to be ultimately vulnerable to terrorism and if that's what you start doing in the military like the Greeks did ... as people have said, 'Louie, you have got to understand, you don't even know your history.' Oh yes I do. I know exactly. It's not a good idea."

Right, because gay servicemembers, given the chance to enter combat, will resort to the ancient Greek philosophy: massages before fighting, what could go wrong?

Someone please keep history from repeating itself and do not reelect Gohmert.

Rep. Louie Gohmert Comments on the Benhams, Compares Gay Rights Advocates to Nazis: VIDEO

Gohmert

Rep. Louie Gohmert referenced the anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-Muslim Benham brothers ("people that were going to be on the television show before it was canceled") today in a speech on the House floor denouncing the "intolerance" of gay rights advocates (my transcript):

"People that stand up and say you know I agree with the majority of Americans, I agree with Moses and Jesus, that marriage is between a man and a woman. Now all of a sudden people like me are considered 'haters, hatemongers, evil' which really is exactly what we've seen throughout our history going back to the days of the Nazi takeover in Europe. They would call people 'haters' and 'evil' and build up disdain for those people who held those opinions or religious views, or religious heritage. And then next came 'well those people are so evil and hateful let's bring every book that they've written or has to do with them and let's start burning the books cause we can't tolerate their intolerance...It's called projecting. Someone that has a characteristic - to divert condemnation on themselves they project their characteristic on someone whom they disagree."

Rep. Louie Gohmert Applauds Mississippi’s Religious Freedom Law Against 'Intolerant’ Gays: AUDIO

GohmertRep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), perhaps the nuttiest anti-gay bigot in the House, is very much pleased with Mississippi’s new law that will allow businesses to turn away LGBT people as an “exercise of religion.”

Right Wing Watch reports that on Family Research Council’s radio show Thursday, FRC president Tony Perkins was joined by Gohmert and Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant in an anti-gay kumbaya to celebrate Mississippi's ability to do what Arizona and Kansas could not. While there, Gohmert gushed on Bryant, saying:

Governor, we are so proud, you have set such a wonderful example of real freedom. You’ve seen it first hand, there is nobody more intolerant in this country than those that are screaming for tolerance. Christians are not intolerant but whoa, goodness these people that have their leftist agenda that are so intolerant so thanks for having the courage to stand up.

Rep. Louie Gohmert Wants To Know How Two Males Mating Advance the Species: VIDEO

Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 4.33.46 PM

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), the same nutbag who believes the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is a 'war on religion,' has been busy this summer speaking out against those who contradict the "plumbing God created.' Earlier this month, Gohmert spoke at a Tea Party rally in Dallas where he asked the question on everyone's mind: How does the mating of two males 'evolve the species upward?' Right Wing Watch reports:

Alleging that the Obama administration was attacking Christianity by threatening to prosecute those who believe that homosexuality is wrong with hate crimes laws, Gohmert wanted to know how "someone who believes in evolution...that throughout the history of the universe, and particularly Earth, that people have come together and born an offspring from different species that has evolved and given us stronger and better species, how does the mating of two males evolve the species upwards? Somebody send me a letter and help me with that."

But as Gohmert says to the crowd: "we're not haters as Christians, we're lovers." And he plans on continuing to spread the love....just not the icky gay kind.

Congressman: Gays Should Hide Sexual Orientation at Work

GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) thinks gays should hide their orientation at work, which shouldn't come as a surprise to those familiar with Gohmert's extremist and nutty positions.

GohmertThink Progress caught up with the Congressman at a Tea Party rally in front of the Capitol on Wednesday:

THINKPROGRESS: Where do you stand on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act?

GOHMERT: I’m not aware of exactly which one you’re talking about

THINKPROGRESS: It would protect LGBT workers from being fired due to their sexual orientation.

GOHMERT: Who wants to go talking about sexual orientation when they’re working? Good grief.

As we reported yesterday, West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller became the 52nd sponsor of ENDA:

In just the last week, three other Democratic Senators--Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Tom Carper of Delaware and Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada--have come out in favor of the bill. Reid's official support is seen as an important boost for the bill, since the majority leader rarely co-sponsors bills himself. Earlier this week, even Gabriel Gomez, the Republican candidate for the open U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, announced his support of ENDA.

Only four Democratic Senators remain who have not endorsed ENDA: Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Bill Nelson of Florida, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Tim Johnson of South Dakota. Sens. Nelson and Johnson support marriage equality; Sens. Manchin and Pryor do not.
