University of Wisconsin-Madison's Bell Tower Plays 'Game of Thrones': VIDEO


Game of Thrones fans at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have a kindred spirit in Lyle Anderson, who plays the carillon's 56 bells and honors the show's theme song.

Anderson has been UW-Madison's official carillonneur for almost 30 years, and YouTube commenters are enjoying his striking resemblance to the Commander of the Night's Watch.

Radio DJ Aaron Rogers Comes Out as Gay on the Air: VIDEO


Nothing like a good coming out on National Coming Out Day!

Aaron Rogers, a radio DJ at Madison, Wisconsin's Z-104 told his listeners yesterday that he would now be living his life as an openly gay man.

Said Rogers to his listeners:

"For anyone listening right now, know that you are not alone and that it's okay to feel the way that you do. Life is very short. Know that  you are loved, appreciated, and respected by more people than you realize. It really does get better, and you have my support always."

Presbyterian Church to Ordain First Openly Gay Minister on Saturday

The Presbyterian Church USA is set to ordain its first openly gay minister this weekend, the Journal Sentinel reports:

Anderson On Saturday, Anderson, of Madison, will become the first openly gay minister ordained by the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. since the denomination amended its constitution this year to allow it.

Hundreds of friends and supporters, and possibly some protesters, are expected to turn out at Covenant Presbyterian Church for what is being called a watershed moment in the life of the denomination. It is also the culmination of one man's deeply personal spiritual journey.

"I have felt a call from God to serve as a parish pastor since I was a sophomore in high school," said Anderson, 56, a near-lifelong Presbyterian who has spent the last eight years as executive director of the Wisconsin Council of Churches. "When I came out and left the ministry, I never thought in my lifetime this day would come," he said. "This has been 20 years of God surprising me, really."

Anderson is being ordained by the John Knox Presbytery, which consists of 60 congregations in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Marriage equality supporters outnumbered "traditional marriage" supporters 8 to 1 at today's National Organization for Marriage (NOM) rally in Madison, Wisconsin, NOM Tour Tracker reports.

That's 466 equality supporters vs. 54 bigots.

One wonders if NOM's speakers could be heard over the crowd. They certainly had trouble in Indianapolis, yesterday. Watch Maggie Gallagher try to shout her hate over the crowd at the Indianapolis rally, AFTER THE JUMP...

Hundreds March for Gay Rights at Wisconsin Capitol


Inspired by the National Equality March, approximately 200 marched on the Wisconsin Capitol Saturday demanding equal rights for LGBT people, the Badger Herald reports:

"About 330 people confirmed on Facebook, and about 800 said they might attend. The march was organized by Unified for Equality, a group composed of Madison area organizations supporting equal rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community. Sponsors included the Madison Area Transgender Association, MATC Pride Alliance, International Socialist Organization, UW Madison LGBTI Equality Now, OutReach/OutThere, UW Whitewater P.E.A.C.E. and UW Whitewater IMPACT."
