Jake Gyllenhaal Gives Good Suit
Jake Gyllenhaal was honored with the "Desert Palm Achievement Award" at the Palm Springs Film Festival over the weekend. Towleroad correspondent Michael Davis sent us these exclusive photos he shot at the awards.
Jake recently spoke about his broad fan base: "I've had girls come up to me and they're so cute and sweet, then that same day I might be at a street fair and a guy with his butt cheeks hanging out might also tell me he likes my movie. It's a pretty interesting existence!"

I'd love to know what "street fair"'s he is attending that might have "a guy with his butt cheeks hanging out". Makes you wonder...

I was wondering about that as well Roy. The SF Folsom Street Fair perhaps?

and is that Peter Saarsgard, his sister's boyfriend, with him in the first photo?

Andy, stop moving your posts around, it's confusing. haha.
As I said earlier.....They describe Jake's role in Brokeback as a "camp cowboy". This is what we have to contend with in the British tabloids.

That is Peter Saarsgard. He costarred with Jake in 'Jarhead' and was the award presenter to Jake at the PS Film Festival. They clearly are friends, and frankly, clearly straight. And clearly comfortable with all the bullshit gossip. Both were funnier than hell at the awards banquet.

Since The Jake lives in L.A. I would hazard to guess the street fair he's speaking of is the Sunset Junction street fair. It began initially to ease tensions between gays & gangs many many years ago. It's happens for 2 days every August in Silverlake. Even though Silverlake's been gentrified beyond recognition, Sunset Junction is still a massive melting pot of, well, everyone you can imagine. I've gone for nearly 20 years & every time will see families & baby strollers & gangbangers & packs of teenagers mingling with skater punks & drag queens & seniors with walkers & S&M Daddies with their slaves on a leash. It just wouldn't be Sunset Junction without a few bare asses in chaps.

I can see how someone can be clearly funnier than hell. I am at a loss to see how someone can be clearly straight.

Too many would recognize him here in LA, Silverlake Sunset Junction. He has been filming Zodiac in San Fran, so my guess he went to the Folsom Street fair there, how nice, Jakey has attended a big gay event, and the butt cheeks didnt turn him off? Jakey, I am here waiting for you at Spider Club... KC

Nice pics. His disco singing was nice too (from what I saw on Entertainment Tonight Canada)

I just saw Brokeback on Sunday and was amazed. Sorry peeps but I live in the South and we are bout slow getting it here. Even tho he is quite a bit younger than me (46 today and still a diva! hehee...kidding not really a diva but I can aspire!..LOL) I can offically say Jake is "dreamy" Thanks for the very lovely pics!

Tyler..ya had to see them dance. ..and unlike most of the fags here...they had a sense of humor ;-)

Well, Jake sure could move his ass (and only in a thong!) in 'those scenes' in Jarhead...and did anyone see the backstage stuff on the Donnie Darko Directors Cut DVD? He certainly can camp it up when required.

So, we can safely assume the Jake Gyllenhaal fanbase is made up of 12 year old girls and the ghost of Robert Mapplethorpe.
I think the overall consensus is Jake (or some PR flack of Jake's) is trying to sound comfortable with a gay fan base. Unfortunately, this kind of thing can backfire, because a.) people will pick comments like this apart and look deeper into just exactly what kinda festival you've been at and b.) very few of your gay fans actually walk around with their butt cheeks hanging out, Jake.
But then, hey, he's ever the comedian, ain't he. I'll cut him some slack.
I'm also in agreement with the poster further up. I too am not sure how someone can be definitively labelled as 'clearly straight' - it's personal perception. I mean, Peter Sarsgaard... To me, he is so aflame he makes the Great Fire of London look like a match light!

Not to turn this into a roundabout..but you're absolutely right. My personal perception (implied since I was writing it) was that they were clearly straight. Just as other people perceive things as clearly gay. The fact remains that statements get made here all the time that imply that an individual must be gay, based on their own perceptions. As is typical of too many gay men, to dare speak otherwise is to impugn their abilty to discern all things gay. So, I'll stick with my standard point. When gay men get a fucking sense of humor about themselves, we all will be happier. But then, to get a sense of humor might mean giving up the GLAAD victim card.
PS: I'm sure Jake will sleep better tonight knowing he's been cut some slack. Because god forbid that a straight man should attend Folsom. Only gay men interested in bondage, leather, etc. attend the street fair. No gay man has ever gone simply because it's fun. ;-)

...and with that, it's time to take my own advise, regather a sense of humor, stop caring what Tom Ford, Lady Bunny, or Jake G. have to say..because none of it matters a bit.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been to me an extraordiary person, I have never been taken by any male actor in my 70 years, but Jake has made me feel like 20 again. It was only after seeing Brokeback Mountain, that has really cast a spell on me. I now have seen the director's cut of Donnie Darko and yes, he was great, as I never have enjoyed teenage films...so straight or gay, it matters not, he is clean, looks like he is not on some drugs, and speaks like a person with intellect. I hope his career is going to just get better and better. But with BBM I don't know how. I think he is doing the interviews just right, and he laughs at himself also...which is rare indeed.

I wonder if Jake reads all this stuff?!? THAT must be freakin' weird! He is a terrific actor and was breathtaking in Brokeback Mountain. Personally, I am grateful to him for taking such a huge risk with his career at such a young age...he could have easily said no to this film, but he didn't. This movie will change the way people perceive us...I mean, I was born and raised in SF and I've never been to the Folsom Street Fair...so does that make me straight now?!? Who he sleeps with is HIS business don't ya think?!? Regardless, we shouldn't try to label people...people do that to us ALL the time...regardless of his preference, let's just hope he is a good person!

PSMIKE,
And you are also assuming I am a gay man.

I saw BBM and brought many memories. I grew up in the 60's and 70's in NYC and it was no different than in Wyoming. Fear of police raid and shame of exposure. Kuddos to Jake and Heath for having the balls to do this movie. They should all receive Oscars for their courage.

I liked "Brokeback Mountain" very much. I am fascinated with Jake Gyllenhaal. I am devastated by the best picture loss. In truth I realy thought Jake G. deserved the Best Actor catagory for the film. He was more convincing for me than Ledger. His caress of Enis' face, the look in the mirror when he first sees Enis, the tears in the truck when rebuffed by Enis just struck me as perfect. Ledger, though excellent gave a more Brandoesqe performance, but beautifully tormented.
Oh and by the way I fell in love with Jake. By all accounts he's fun and a nuce guy.

Jake... get rid of the helmet hair... it looks really naff...

I am a very distant acquaintance of the Gyllenhaal clan and a relatively close neighbor of theirs. They are an extraordinary bunch with very progressive social and political beliefs. Sister Maggie made a film last year in which she dates a very sweet young man played by the late John Ritter's son. Her boyfriend made a film in which he plays a gay screenwriter. And, of course, you know what film Jake made. They were all working actors doing what they do best. This is no reflection on their sexuality-- it was only a movie. I myself am an old hag who finds herself hopelessly enfatuated with Jake as well. He has shown his great sensitivity and passion opposite Heath Ledger, Gwyneth Paltrow, Catherine Keener and Jennifer Aniston to name a few romantic leads.

Hey, boys and girls, a question. It seems these days I can't stop being amazed by this brokeback phenomenon, which later turn into some kind of gyllenhaalics. I fell in love with bbm first, and then it made its way to jake, such an adorable adorable creature. As a sensible and always self-conscious woman, who was never in her 40 years of life been so crushed by any hollywood star, let along a younger one, I so desperately wish to find out the reason why.. what is it about bbm, and what is it about Jake (instead of the seeming more egocentric and competitive Ledger) that drives me, and obviously, all of us here, crazy... It's becoming crazier everyday and I sort of need to know like a therapy.. hehe. Anyone care to share a thought?

Anna, thanks for coming out as a forty year old woman confessing your crush on Jake. I, too, am an older woman - 47 as a matter of fact - who has become completely obsessed with Jake. Like you, I fell in love with BBM first and then with Jake after seeing the movie twice. I've now seen it 11 times and am having withdrawals because it isn't playing in my area anymore. I can't wait for the DVD. I don't have the answer as to what this beautiful man has done to warrant such admiration. All, I know is that I certainly don't feel like an old woman!

t how this movie effected me. The story is so touching. The torment that both Jack and Ennis share is heart wrenching. I have seen the movie 3 times now, have the short story by Annie P., and the sceenplay by Diana O. and Larry Mc. The movie will be out here in Texas on April 4 at our local WalMart store. I will be there to get my copy at about 5am. Jake and Heath were absolutely amazing in this movie. To feel that kind of love in my life would have been wonderful. Married twice with no love, except for the son and now his twins, I would have loved to know that feeling. I cry at he end seeing the shirts, first with Jack holding Ennis, then with Ennis holding Jack.

Maybe Jake should worry - I'm female, straight and 63, and I too am deep in BBM - soundtrack playing as I wait, story and screen-play falling apart from repeated readings, would be watching the movie for the seventh time if they hadn't taken it off, dying for the DVD.
I don't know what it is about the story, except that perhaps it brings back up one's regrets about missed opportuniies, being too weak to reach out and grab what's there, and the times one knew one was in love.
Oh, and since "My Pictures" currently holds 435 images of Jake,I may just be obsessed with him too - handsome, clever, funny, self-deprecating and a dog-owner - the latter is his only flaw, as I'm a cat-person, but hey, I'll compromise!
