The editor of Russia’s only glossy gay magazine, Kvir, and a male heterosexual who defends gay rights, have attempted to register a same-sex marriage in Moscow.
According to the BBC, Ed Mishin and Edvard Murzin seek to challenge the Russian Family Code, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, race, or religion. Homosexuality between two men was a criminal act in Russia up until 1993. Liberal politicians have hailed the bold attempt, but consider it unlikely to succeed.
